Received my 4speed knob, disappointed to say it's the wrong thread size.

You may be able to find an adapter. Here is a kit I received from a knob I ordered one other time. I just got my 5speed version. I will put it on this weekend. I used lock-tight last time, so I may have trouble breaking the seal... The lock-tight worked awesomely, so no need for a set screw in my previous version.

Cheers.

Well that sucks. I had asked and a couple gys responded that they were all the same(m12 X 1.25mm). Can you thread a known nut onto your shifter and identify the thread pitch on yours? So far the 5 speeds are correct, so if any of you four speed guys could chime in I would appreciate it. I have a feeling I was given the wrong information.

I received my 4 spd knob yesterday and tried it out this morning. I love the workmanship on the knob but unfortunately it doesn't fit.

Mine is a 1977 FJ40 with the original 4 spd and gear shift. I took a metric tap and die set and tried threading dies onto the stick. The 10mm-1.25 is the one that threaded right on correctly and I was able to run it all the way down by hand.

No good deed goes unpunished! Dang Kieth! That sucks. Do you think I can source an adapter locally? I hate that you were trying to fill a need and made this mistake.

Beyond me why? O'kay let me come up with a solution as you're right this project was abit of work that's for sure. I think a 12X1.25 to 10X1.25 male thread adapter as Lorax mentioned above would be great solution. Let me do some research and we will solve this.

My 5-speed knob fit correctly. The 4-speed is a smaller bolt size. As others have mentioned, it is 10x1.25. I hope there is an adapter. Alternately, the adapter set I posted above uses a size bigger than the 12x1.25 and has a step down to 10x1.25, so widening to meet an adapter could work. My set is 16x1.5 outer, then 10x1.25 or 12x1.25 inner.

Hope something like that is easy to find and drill/tap.

Cheers.

Well done Copenhagen. It appears that it is common in the shift knob industry to use varietys of thread reducers. Although I'm a little disappointed regarding the incorrect info that these were all the same, I really feel it is my responsibility to provide the knob that fits your shifter correctly. So you shouldn't have to spend anymore money.

Hello Benny,
The set screw was necessary as with the originals once they are screwed down you could turn them abit further as the threads were just plastic. These being solid aluminum, don't budge. So the set screw(6-32) allows us to lock it down. I tried to place it in a inconspicuous spot so it's doubtful it will ever be noticed. As far as the other questions regarding color, please see the Facebook link for the photos. The 4&5 speed knobs have reversed colors as the originals. With anodizing the laser simply dyes out the base material leaving white to shine through. Are you asking if the 5 speed could be reversed to look like the 4 speed? Then yes I saved a couple of knobs that haven't need lasered just invade someone asked for a special let me know.

So on post#56 there is pic of 4 & 5 spd knob. Are you wanting that exact 5 spd or are you requesting a special 5 spd that has the shift pattern reversed like the 4 spd? Sorry just want to be clear.

Ya'll - Iam helping out Keith with his "Knob issue" ;) Keith's knobs rock, and I even own one myself.

I had an adaptor made to solve the 4-speed thread size issue, and Keith and I are coordinating our efforts to ship these out ASAP. So if you have one of Keith's 4-speed knobs, and find an envelope in your mailbox next week from Cruisercrap.com, it's your adaptor!

When using the adapter, put a drop of lock tight, and then use set screw.
Use the 10mm nut I'll send, to adjust the angle of the knob.
