Today is LC maintenance day. At 188k give or take (don't feel like going to look) so all of the "oily fluids" are being changed and if I can get to it I thought I would put some new sparkplugs in. Should I pull them when the engine is cold, warm, or at full temp?

I don't know that it makes one bit of difference other than I prefer to work on a cold motor seeing as I always manage to touch something that's hot if it's been running. Interval is 120k on plugs, so if they were done 60k ago you're wasting money.

I don't think they've ever been done. The original owner kept good records and I don't see spark plugs in the records

Cold... yeah, point taken... It's been 30+ years and I still remember what it feels like to accidentally get skin on a hot header.

I would say anywhere in the cold to warm range. From a safety standpoint, I wouldn't do any work on a hot engine, unless absolutely necessary.

As for the plugs themselves, if you haven't already bought them, check Advanced Auto parts if you have one nearby. I used the online discount code Trt30 and bought a set of the Denso Iridium for under $50. Paid online, and picked them up in the store later that day.

On a cold day, I like warm. Helps reduce cracking of cold hoses & rubber you'll be pulling getting to the plugs. My hands also work better warm;)

My bad... I found the 90k service receipt and they installed 60k NGK plugs. I guess that means 60,000 mile plugs? My mileage is almost 100k over that so it's time.

I found a set of Denso's online (via Mud) months ago. I'm just now getting to installing them.

Installing plugs today. Anyone recall the torque specs? 10-20lbs? I don't want to over tighten them.

It's funny, depending on what secition I look in. I've seen the OM, MS, FSM, myToyota & mylexus give either 06K or 120K for same iridium spark plugs. One spot stated it relates to pollution laws. I go by inspection of plugs themselves. If gap is near max I replaced.

13ft-lbf & coil 66in-lbf (note that is inch on coil torque, not foot lb.)
