I want to replace the conferr rear shackles I have on my 40 with some anti-inversion greasable shackles. I've got a skyjacker 4" lift.

I meaasured the rear shackles I have now and they are 4" from bolt center to bolt center. I can't seem to find any anti-inversion shackles that are the same length as what I have now.

Any thoughts on what size I should substitute? I like the way the truck sits now.

Thanks for the advice/direction.

how much longer are the shackles you want versus what you have? in the overall stance of the truck, a slightly longer shackle may not make a noticeable difference.

if the differnce is significant and you just can't live with them, make your own or pay someone to fab them for you if you can't buy what you want

I'm looking for something as close to what I have length wise...but looking at the 4+ options there seems to be 3/4" and then 2" over stock.

Would the 2" over stock length (which would be 4.75" eye to eye or .75" longer than what I have now) require me to reshim the rear axle or change the stance of the truck?

3/4" difference in shackle length is nothing. You won't be able to tell the difference. Buy them, install with new bushings and be done with it.

I thought that the general rule was that for whatever additional length in shackle you get, you get half of that in lift at the axle. So if you were to get shackles 3/4 inch longer than what you currently have, that only give you a 3/8 inch change at the axle. Would seem to me that this would not be enough to require any re-shimming. I'd change more than that if I got new tires.

that assumes the axle housing is located exactly in the center of the length of the spring which FJ40's are not. a 3/4" longer shackle will raise the rear of his truck but it will be virtually undetectable.

When you consider that ALL Tundras are 1.5" nose low and ALL 2003-newer 4 Runners are 2" nose low, the small fractions of an inch you guys are talking about is nothing really noticable!!

A 3/4 inch increase in shackle lenght would change the angle by at most, 1 degree (if the shackle is perpendicular to the frame; less if the shackle angle is < 90).
