Replacing electric hubs on a LJ78

For anyone desiring to ditch their E-Hubs, we (Cruiser Outfitters) have a conversion kit available complete with Japanese spindle, hub body, AISIN hub (pick your specs) and the parts needed to install. We also have a limited amount of the hub spacers that allow you to simply bolt an AISIN hub to your existing "4 stud" components. Give us a ring at the shop and we can discuss. It's obviously more expensive than AVM, but it's Japanese parts and upgradable.

This will work / apply to auto hubs on VDJ76 ..?

When replacing the electric hub end caps, The hub switch must be in 2WD.
yes, did that. it was always off when I installed the hub....BTW, I removed the end caps because I realized the 4WD was not engaging...this is how it came from Japan. The motors worked, the motor cog turned when the ON button was pressed. The hub gear (the wheel with teeth on both sites attached to the end cap) was in the off position on both sides. the wheel, for what ever reason was not moving to the ON position, although the motor turns the small cog. So, I turned the wheel to the ON position with my hand, removed the small cog from motor, then installed the end caps. now when I press the LOCK and H4 button, the 4WD works fine. Downside: front axle is always turning now, even when I am not using 4WD. Is this a problem? should I drive slower? I will follow OldBlue's directions over the weekend.

If the hubs are locked and your in H2 it will be OK , jack one front wheel off the ground and turn it, if drive shaft turns then your in H2

The kits we currently have assembled will not fit a 5-lug Land Cruiser axle with the larger hub & studs. BUT, we would certainly put a kit together. We stock the AISIN hub that will physically work and have knuckle kits/seals with the other parts. Email the shop for a quote. Thanks!

Hello,

The auto hubs on later (1999 on) 70 Series do not suffer the problems electric locking hubs do.

You just need to engage 4WD regularly to keep the mechanism in good shape.

That is because later 70 Series DO NOT HAVE ELECTRIC HUBS.

@Tapage didn't ask if we have a kit for electric hubs, he asked if we had a conversion kit for auto hubs and late 7x Series Cruiser do in fact have an auto hub option and I don't blame folks for wanting to convert to standard selectable AISIN.

Anyone have a set of spacers they are not using? I want to swap the AVM locking hubs for the correct set of OEM Aisian locking hubs.
