So I just swapped the plastic oil filter housing with the Oem metal one and noticed the center cylinder is much shorter. Everything else was the same.

I know it’s probably being paranoid, but is there any functional difference?

Yes. You are supposed to replace the short tube in the metal housing with the long tube in the OEM plastic housing. If you did not do that, then you will have to take it all apart again and do it. If you don't, you run the risk of the filter collapsing.

Shoot, glad I asked. Thanks!

how do you swap that tube over?

There's a few videos on YouTube, but basically if you're looking at the tube and you try to rotate it, you will see two tabs that prevent it from doing so. You have to bend those tabs up in order for the tube to rotate and be able to pop up.
