No really, what's the cost, I'm getting ready to do this job, so I'm deciding between buying the head kit, or the complete gasket kit.

Get the complete gasket kit and just pull the motor. Its the best way, then you don't have any leaks or crap to worry about for the next 100k miles or more. I also recomend rebuilding the PS system while the motor is out, as well as the alternator.

Well Beno is CORRECT:
a) AFAIK he has NEVER lied,
b) the part that was labelled 16351A in the drawing "- Tool/Engine/Fuel Grp >16-03 - RADIATOR & WATER OUTLET" that I (and my local parts guy) believed was different and smaller was NOT ... in fact the part that arrived was labelled 90301-29006 and was EXACTLY the same as the other 3 "O" rings that were included in my gasket kit.... as Beno correctly identified.
c) These gaskets fit the "Pipe" UNFORTUNATELY, I still dont have the correct "O" ring for the face of the "Water Bypass Outlet". Because the machined circular groove in the face of the water bypass outlet is smaller in diameter than the multiple "O" rings I now own and will not accept the larger "O" rings.
d) I give up and will continue to use the old "O" ring until it leaks ... then FIPG

(if anybody else runs into this issue I would be interested in hearing from them. Has my outlet been swapped?) 1997 LX450

Hi Beno,

can you tell me what is bottom left o-ring for ? I don't remember seeing that when working on the head gasket.

The first seems to be the distributor, second is the thermostat. The last one I am puzzled.

Water bypass pipe on the PS of the engine by the timing cover above the thermostat housing.
That's probably for earlier Land Cruisers ? I don't see it fitting anywhere in my 1997 Land Cruiser.

It is there for all 1FZ-FE engines.

You can't miss it. It is a good sized aluminum tube that is pressed onto a sleeve that is pressed onto the top of the thermostat housing. The top part of the tube gets held into the head of the engine by 2 bolts.

Can you give me part number for that ? I really can't see how it fits there.

16351-66010

You don't see quite a large hole on the top front, PS of the head? It would be hard to miss.
I see a quite large there but I thought that there is going only the sleeve with the pipe. I don't remember taking out gasket like this.

OK. I've really given you all of the information I can possibly give you without being there to point it out.

There are 3 orings there: 1 to the head where the pipe mates and then 2 orings where the pipe goes on the sleeve and then where the sleeve goes into the the top of the thermostat housing.

I think that we have a little of misunderstanding , I know about the three o-rings , the o-ring I am discussing is much much bigger. See the picture I provided . It is the only o-ring of that size in the kit. Don't loose patience with me Beno :)

I am talking about the o-ring or whatever it is on the top.

The schematic has everything you need to know about what is in the kit if you know the 1FZ-FE.

I'll make it easier for you.

This is what is in 04112-66036 (Valve Grind kit, 1FZ-FE: AKA: Head Gasket kit)

1. Head Gasket
2. Injector orings and grommets
3. Fuel line gaskets
4. Throttle body gasket
5. Exhaust Manifold gaskets
6. Intake manifold to head gasket
7. Upper and lower intake gaskets
8. EGR valve to intake manifold gasket
9. EGR pipe to head gasket
10. Fuel filter banjo bolt gaskets
11. Valve cover gasket
12. Spark plug tube seals
13. Valve stem seals (both intake and exhaust valves--24 total since it is a 24 valve engine)
14. Water outlet gasket
15. Thermostat gasket
16. Timing Chain tensioner gasket
17. Water bypass outlet orings (3)
18. Exhaust manifold down pipe donut gaskets
19. Air injection tube gaskets (for 1993-1994 trucks)
20. Gaskets for the cylinder head screw plugs
21. Dizzy oring

You need to add: water bypass tube gasket, oil cooler gaskets x2, oil cooler cover gasket, gaskets for the oil cooler plug and relief valve, FIPG for the half moons. Everything else that you add depends on the scope of the work you are doing and the scope of the plan.

Do I recall that this kit was discontinued? can you only buy the full engine kit now? If so, does it include everything you need now?
