Since Toyota discontinued the cylinder head gasket set awhile back, you now have to buy a complete engine overhaul set to get a head gasket P/N 04111-66036. While on line i found a cylinder head gasket set, that is supposed to be made by a company that supply's all of the OEM seals and gaskets for Toyota. The price i found for the kit is reasonable,($168.00) and if it is a true Toyota part it would help those of us that don't want to buy a full set just to get a head gasket. So my question is this, is this in fact the same kit you would get from a Toyota dealer? Maybe some of our Toyota parts guys will speak up, and let us know if this is in fact a "real Toyota" part, or just an aftermarket part. Here's the company name and their part number for this set, along with a web link.

No, it is not the same. The Toyota kit comes with a lot more that you need that is not listed there.

Also, the Toyota HG kit has to be "added to" to make it a complete kit:" you need your water bypass gaskets, your distributor o-ring, the EGR pipe gasket at the back of the head, and FIPG.

The head gasket kit is not discontinued from Toyota: 04112-66036

Readily available all day long.

Beno, i stand corrected, when i said the factory Toyota value grind kit had been discontinued, i got that info from a post here on Mud. It came from another poster, who said that Toyota discontinued those kits, and the only kit you could still get a head gasket in, was the complete overhaul kit. So that part number you listed, could you post a link that lists all the contents of that kit?

Beno, that's kind of a problem, every sight i go to, and type in that P/N you gave just shows a blank spot were the view should be, or it just shows a exploded view of our entire engine. There is nothing listing the contents of what gaskets or seals come in that cylinder head valve grind kit.

The schematic has everything you need to know about what is in the kit if you know the 1FZ-FE.

I'll make it easier for you.

This is what is in 04112-66036 (Valve Grind kit, 1FZ-FE: AKA: Head Gasket kit)

1. Head Gasket
2. Injector orings and grommets
3. Fuel line gaskets
4. Throttle body gasket
5. Exhaust Manifold gaskets
6. Intake manifold to head gasket
7. Upper and lower intake gaskets
8. EGR valve to intake manifold gasket
9. EGR pipe to head gasket
10. Fuel filter banjo bolt gaskets
11. Valve cover gasket
12. Spark plug tube seals
13. Valve stem seals (both intake and exhaust valves--24 total since it is a 24 valve engine)
14. Water outlet gasket
15. Thermostat gasket
16. Timing Chain tensioner gasket
17. Water bypass outlet orings (3)
18. Exhaust manifold down pipe donut gaskets
19. Air injection tube gaskets (for 1993-1994 trucks)
20. Gaskets for the cylinder head screw plugs
21. Dizzy oring

You need to add: water bypass tube gasket, oil cooler gaskets x2, oil cooler cover gasket, gaskets for the oil cooler plug and relief valve, FIPG for the half moons. Everything else that you add depends on the scope of the work you are doing and the scope of the plan.

Beno, thank you for that list of contents, sorry if it seemed like i was being obtuse, but I'm just trying to learn how Toyota does stuff. Now if you were to ask me about parts for a big, or small block Ford, or Chevy, i would go to my old factory counter catalogs and give you chapter and verse, on what comes with what, so please try to bear with me while i learn Toyota's parts system. Thanks again Beno, for your help!

No really, what's the cost, I'm getting ready to do this job, so I'm deciding between buying the head kit, or the complete gasket kit.

Okay, no problem.

I read this with some shock. I would think it to be the last thing a company would drop.

^me too-especially with how these HG are. Whole engine kit isn't too bad-bet not too much more %
than headset price. Usually these parts are only a small part of your total cot.

my kit # 04112-66036 was missing the "Heater Pipe" gasket (where it connects to the thermostat housing) and also where you show #17 above "Water bypass outlet orings (3)" ... correct there are three "O" rings required and I received three "O" rings HOWEVER the "O" rings in the kit were all the same size ... but the one required for the water by-pass outlet seal that faces the block is smaller than the other two and a different part number which I had to order separately. Also if you pull the two dipstick tubes that the Shop manual wants you to do to R&R the head ... you will require the two "O" rings for the tube ends. I recall I was short two gaskets for the Fuel inlet pipe as well (but had spares from the fuel filter kit I had purchased separately) and I didn't remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the rail ..so didn't need a gasket there ( I think it might take two if you remove it) I used Permatex Ultra Grey which seems to cross reference to Toyota FIPG .. and is easily available at NAPA

(incidentally - to add ... despite the name: whole engine kit - that the 04112-66036 is called ... there arent a whole lot of bits left over after you complete the head gasket)

04112-66036 is the HG kit

04111-66036 is the engine kit

The three orings are the same. Trust me.

if you say so on the "Kit" ... mine reads " Part # 04112-66036 / Gasket Kit , Engine V" ... it was sent from North American Parts Center, Calif. per the shipping label

However you are wrong about the three "O" rings .. they are NOT the same (trust me) AND, as I found out when I ordered the missing correct "O" ring, they are different part numbers ... two of the "O" rings are part number 16268F ... the third required "O" ring is 16351A according to the drawing "- Tool/Engine/Fuel Grp >16-03 - RADIATOR & WATER OUTLET" the 16268F is larger and will not fit the machined groove on the face of the water outlet

Ok. Don't believe me sir (as if I have ever lied about part numbers).

What you are looking at (and don't understand) are called PNC's: Part Number Category. A part can have the same PNC and have a completely different part number. Or, vice versa, have different PNC's and have the same part number (as in the case of the three Orings for the water by-pass tube)

Those three Orings are the SAME.

In other news, just so people can see what is in a 04112-66036:
