So I've searched the google and MUD search and not finding an answer to my question......which may just be an answer in itself. I'm wondering if there are any factory reproduction wiring harnesses offered? There are some companies that do full replica harnesses for the old land rovers with the same wire colors and connectors. I see people doing Painless or EZ wiring kits and I see headlight harnesses. My stock harness works for the most part but every time I get in to check a bulb or change out a part I can see that the wires are getting stiff or brittle and they will be a problem at some point.

Nothing right now. Most tend to update to delphi connectors or similar which is a major improvement over the original connectors when it comes to full wiring restoration.

The other option is to take each harness, get spools of wire that match the OEM colors, get the correct molex terminals and molex crimp tool and recreate yourself. It is rather easy to make the harness yourself, just takes some time. If you have junkyards near you, most 80s era Toyotas share a majority of the terminal housings so you can go nuts with cutting those off. I haven't had much luck locating new terminal housings yet, but I also haven't searched very hard.

If you look up molex crimp tools, you can find a decent unit starting around $40. It does the job very nicely, i used them to build my wiring harness on my harley. I've also started to use it on the truck for lighting circuits that were spliced in for trailer lighting that I did not appreciate.

I've got a spare '84 FJ60 wiring harness (pretty sure it's complete) stored in my basement. Taken from a relatively low-mileage '84 FJ60 I bought over 15 years ago to part out. PM me if interested in seeing some photos.

Believe that i saw one on ebay popping up on my feed. May try checking it or seeing if you have one at a local wrecking yard that you can cannibalize.

Few years ago I sold a complete harness to a guy in Colorado (I think that's where he was) as he had plans to use it as a template to produce new wiring harnesses. As far as I know this endeavor went nowhere and he's dropped off the map. I don't even remember his name.

Its a big task to rebuild the whole harness but using an old one as a template and building sections at a time is realistic. The real trick is to create some layout prints or assembly table to allow for more efficient assembly of several harnesses at the same time. A few years ago I got a brand new harness for a Honda CL350 motorcycle from a guy in Poland. He was very reasonable on price and excellent quality and it is identical to stock. Maybe I can dig up his email and see if he is interested in cloning a stock FJ60 harness if I can send him an old one.

This is his site:

I'll report back when I get some details

Molex or similar connectors would be a good idea. I think we either used TXL or SXl wire on the last rally car we wired and ordered supplies from Waytek.

I contacted the guy who made the really nice harness for me for the old Honda motorcycle...he said he thought the full harness for a 60 would be too much of a task but would consider making up smaller pieces of it.
