Bumping this thread, because I just replaced all of my door speakers with JBL GX-series. GX602 in the rear, GX600c components in the front. Bypassed the factory amp completely.

Does anybody have dimensions for what can fit under the passenger seat in place of the factory amp?

I'm thinking about a https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014XQ6BL...olid=2N7LLOIKSSC5G&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it if it'll fit, and popping a new 6" sub in the rear enclosure.

Or possibly a https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A02PG0...olid=2N7LLOIKSSC5G&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it just for the cabin speakers, and running another amp in the rear for a larger sub.

Went this this one. No issues and has plenty power. It drives tweeters and speakers up front, second row and 12” sub no problems.

do you have picks of the install? I don't see them in your build thread

No, i didn’t take any pics. Ill try to answer your questions as best I can.

Just ordered all of these off amazon ($194 shipped). My speakers are blown. I was considering re-foaming them, but instead will replace them.

@Arya Ebrahimi, are you still happy with these speakers?

Hopefully these are still decent speakers in 2018.

Sorry for the late reply. No complaints on the speakers! This is my wife's DD so I don't get to listen to them all that often, but I haven't noticed any issues when we take it on trips.

No worries! I actually ended up returning these speakers and just re-foamed the front two speakers instead. They sound great now.

I decided on something more unorthodox. The front speakers were blown so I replaced them with 6.5 in Skar audio Speakers I go on amazon, and I kept all the connections just resoldered it to the new speakers. The sub was missing the foam but it worked so I cut them out and did the reform kit. Then, when I put the sub back in I bridged a new speaker connection, and drilled holes in the side of the sub enclosure. When it comes in, I am going to attach it to a bazooka tube with a built in amplifier for high level connections, increasing the quantity and quality of bass.

How do the Skar speakers sound?

Hello cruisers!

Has anyone tried replacement on a 98 model before I start monkeying around with it..? As it has a slightly different plastic bracket design I believe. Plus a wooden kind of a spacer attached to the speaker front instead of the four screws holding the speaker to the bracket. and the magnet at the back is surrounded by support from the bracket itself. (Pics attached) or do I need to get a later version bracket and where if so?

01 LX with ML, so I'll be installing the following within a couple of weeks.

Infinity Kappa 60CSX + 2" midrange addons fronts
Infinity Kappa 6.5" coax rears
Infinity Bassconnect DC (powered 10" sub)
Infinity Kappa Four amp

Head unit is Pioneer aftermarket.

Warning: initial fit is that the sub won't fit between 2nd or 3rd row in any orientation. I don't use 3rd row seats but I have them for family visits. The sub also has quick disconnects. The only orientation of the sub to not sacrifice tons of cargo space is rear firing installed behind the middle second row seats. The plastic surrounds for the 3rd row seating anchors prevent any other option - bummer.

I'll try to document with pics, especially if the amp can fit below the passenger front seat and also the front 3-way components. Has anyone successfully run 16awg wire through the stock door harness, hopefully?

LC Kenya, I have 98 rust bucket and about to dive into speaker replacement...did you find out anything more? Your picture suggests that it may be tricky to mount the JBL/other speakers the threads describe mounting into the existing bracket on 01, 03 100s.

Is it required to use the crossover when replacing the original front speakers with component speakers? Couldn’t you just plug the woofer and tweeter into the factory harness as is without the crossover?

I'm not 100% on this bc it's been a minute since I pulled those speakers but usually factory speakers have a little resistor on them somewhere that's acting as a high pass or low pass filter. The factory amp doesn't have any crossover capabilities as far as I know.

I recently replaced my speakers and tweeters in my 04 with Nav . I get sound from all the speakers however my driver side I significantly quieter than my right side. This issue was present before I changed my speakers as well. I did a very similar set up as the OP. I use a cassette aux , but when I change to FM it seems like it fixes it and all speakers are equal in volume . Has anyone ran into this ? Is it because i am using a cassette aux?
