Has anyone used the JBL 3way GTO638 6.5" In the front or rear doors? The product information says they will work with 2 or 4ohm amps.

I read about this "ohm" issue in most of the speaker replacement threads, I'm an 07 LC with JBL factory stereo, I'm one that just wants stock sound restored, my best bet would be to buy the Stock speakers and install but "OVERPRICED" and apparently intentionally quirky engineering, is there an aftermarket speaker replacement for the blown front door speakers that is an ideal choice for stock ???? 2 or 4 ohm requirement and mounting ease if your not going to change any other components? Of all the speaker replacement threads, this is my favorite write up. But, I only want to replace the door speakers not tweeters and I'd like to have total plug and play connectors? I'm not sure after reading these threads if I need 2 ohm door speakers or 4 but I think I need 2 for my JBL 07 model. Has anyone got source and part numbers for this?

I did use the factory wires from the original amp, cut the factory plug off and connected my 4 channel amp under the passenger seat in the same location, all the wires are there. I have the wiring info if you need that. The amp for my subs behind that storage door on the lower right in the back. For the power, I ran a wire off my battery with a 50 amp fuse right after the connection on the terminal. You have to run off the battery direct unless you are connecting a very small amp. The wire stops under the passenger seat and then a 6 gauge wire continues to the sub amp. I wasn't sure if that was large enough for the sub amp but it was. You did a nice job with all the pictures and descriptions. How does your sub sound with the new speakers? I thought about doing that too but I wanted more bass, I have 2-10" Rockford Fosgate subs. When they are in the way, I just unplug them and take the box out, they have a quick release plug.

Resurrect!!! Could you show the wiring if you still have it?

Thanks for this write up. Did the front today. The photos were a big help

I replaced all 5 speakers in my 03 with Mark Levinson, with a very similar process to whats listed here. I used cheap speakers:

I used
Rockford R1675S R1 Prime 6.75-Inch 2-Way Component Speaker System (and discarded the tweeters) and Metra 72-8104 Speaker Connector for Select Toyota Vehicles for the front,

Rockford Fosgate R14X2 Prime 4-Inch Full Range Coaxial Speaker - Set of 2 for the rear

Audiopipe 6.5" dual voice coil wired in series (with no resistors) for the rear sub.

The stereo can now play quite loud, though the bass is obviously lacking once above a medium volume level. It certainly sounds *miles* better that all of the rotted drivers did when I got the truck. But does it sound *good*? No. Its OK for listening to Audible, podcasts, some EDM, and some background music. But by no means am I going to go to the LX470 for listening pleasure. It's fine for $150 and some wrenching invested.

For those who've replaced speakers in your 11 speaker ML systems what did you use for the 3in front door mids?
Parts Express have a few suitable one-ways that will fit but I haven't ordered anything from them yet.
To date I've replaced the front door 6in and tweeters (no external cross over required, soldered directly to OE cables) and replaced the rear door 4in/tweeter combo with 6.25in three-ways for a significant improvement over the mixed bag of blown originals. I may just refoam the sub.

@PADDO The door ML mid range door speakers are 2.25 " speakers ( why? I do not know) I have some replacements on order and will need to construct a strap/fastener to hold them firmly in place.

I'll post up with install and final verdict once they arrive. It is mostly me being obsessive of replacing ALL the old sets of speakers.

I replaced all of my LCs speakers this today. I used the Polk DB series. I got glued the 1" tweeters to the factory mounts. I had to pry off the stock tweeter. After mounting all the speakers I test them and found that one of the tweeters was blown... It sounds like it has wax paper in the speaker. I also redid the fabric on the speaker covers. All in all, I'm very pleased with the upgrade. I'm going to pull RCA jacks from my new HU down through the sill panels and up thru each door. Basically, bypassing the amp. I shouldn't have any issues using the aftermarket loom for all the other wires, antenna, mute, back up camera, ground, power, etc? I hate the hiss and popping.

I installed a pyle plpw6d sub yesterday and wanted to thank @Arya Ebrahimi for such a great write up! I never would have considered trimming the sub but went straight for it.

If you are looking to do the same I posted a full install including the sub modification on you tube here:

Also an important note on wiring that I noticed on several threads.

The negative (-) leads are black and red wires
The positive (+) leads are yellow and blue wires

I know it is counter intuitive that red is negative. I have some good documentation that led me to this and it explains why the sub is not working when people hook up both voice coils, which when reversed will cause the signals to cancel.

Thanks

Glad I found this write up. I just got a 2003 LC and I really want to replace the speakers and eventually put an amp in. I love Infinitys myself, so I may look at the same speakers. They look great! I'll try to take pictures and post with my findings and what nots. Thanks!

I have a buzz in my speakers. I changed the head unit ground connection to the battery direct to see if that was it, no luck. I was thinking about changing the two amp grounds also. Any ideas?

I just had a stereo shop put new Club JBL units in all my doors including the tweeters. The sub was just unpaged as the new JBLs do a good job. Factory Amp and head used with 2002 OEM JBL system. I just wanted to say they were all JBL. The whole thing labor and speakers was $300. Well worth the money.

I'm glad this is getting revised I have a 2006 land cruiser and looking at changing mine out due to one is blown. I'm sure from others i believe we have to match the ohms on speakers replacement. Has anyone used these? https://www.amazon.com/JBL-GTO608C-...UTF8&qid=1478574443&sr=1-1&keywords=2+ohm+6.5

and will someone clarify if i have to match ohms i never plan on adding an app as i have factory navigation

You don't need to match OEM Speaker ohms, with 4ohm speakers (most all aftermarket are 4ohms) you will just need turn the volume knob a little more (higher) than it is now with the OEM speakers, but that's it. As long as your intended use is for listening to music while driving, it will work properly without any extra amplifier.

Thank you @Arya Ebrahimi and @brizzle for the awesome speaker install instructions!!! Followed both tutorials and finished this install in a jiffy on my 2001 LC. Front doors and rear sub were completely blown. After watching the video, I had no issues cutting the surround off the pyle subwoofer. Now the system sounds great!

While I was in there I also removed the cloth over the grille and painted brown to match interior. Also tightened door handle bolts. Triple win!

I've never replaced speakers in my life but now my wife thinks I'm some sort of pro. ;)

Excellent write up. My brother and I both have 04 models and the speakers were obviously falling apart. Sounded like you could not get a good signal the speakers were so rotted. Did mine alone on Saturday in about 2 hours and his in about an hour with his help.

We used Alpine SPS 610c in the front and SPS 610 in the rear. Only about $130 for the complete set and they sound great. We found them on Amazon as a set.

We also both had the dreaded left rear passenger door SQUEEK from the door panel rubbing and fixed that too with information on this forum.

Thanks for all the great write ups!
Hello Shawn! Just read your post about replacing your Cruiser speakers with Alpine 610 series; I actually have a set of those in the garage and I was wondering if you ran into any issues at all with the install? I believe the 610c speakers actually come with a built-in crossover for the tweeter, so did that make the install more of a "plug and play" than Ebrahimi's original post where he had to mount an external cross-over? I love Alpine and want to use these speakers unless you had any problems? Thank you and have a great weekend!

I just installed the Alpine 610 on my LC last week.
As you say they have some kind of a built in cross over that is elongated (like a thick-shrink-wrapped- wire) which IMO makes the installation very very easy as I simply zip tied the crossover to the OEM wiring loom on the door frame.
Just take the old speakers and tweeters off, and replace for the Alpines.
I bolted the Alpine speakers to the OEM plastic speaker bracket with the supplied self tapping screws, the OEM holes will not alining but just screw them in on the plastic bracket wherever you like them... not a problem.
You will have to cut the oem speaker terminals and replace with terminals that are compatible with the Alpine speaker connections, but that is mostly it. (The terminals are not included with the speakers so plan ahead before tearing your truck apart).
The tweeters I just stuck to the OEM bracket with two sided 3M tape.

Thank you for this write helped me on my install on my 2003 LC
That being said I have a few questions and did not want to start a new thread.
I installed these infinity speakers a day ago and they sound excellent.
As I was driving today my front speakers stopped working all of a sudden,
it was a little bit loud but not insanely loud. i checked all the connections and they are ok.
Is it possible I blew the amp channel for just the front?
if so can i add a new aftermarket amp keeping that one in place for nav control reasons.

thanks.
