My fuel pump died. Here's what I replaced and what I have done. I can't get the vehicle to start again. :crybaby:

1. New Fuel Pump
2. New Fuel pressure regulator
3. New Fuel Filter
4. Put in new spare fusible link
5. checked all fuses near driver's knee
6. Checked Engine Codes - Clear / None
7. Checked EFI Relay - Good
8. Pulled line coming out of FPR - Fuel comes out
9. Checked wiring drivers rear panel - all wires good
10. Checked back rear ground under tailgate and behind spare tire
11. Starter working fine - cranks
12. Rechecked all lines to gas tank / fuel lines connected
13. Gas in tank after replacing fuel pump
14. Wired diagnostic box +B to Fp and I can hear fuel pump

What am I missing? Car was driving fine with fuel pump whine one day and next it dies. I say ok, I'll replace the fuel pump and all will be ok. I get everything back together and I'm stuck....

I'm losing faith in my abilities and feel like dropping it off at a shop. I hate to do that when i have all the time to fix it myself as it's my second car. I appreciate all help and I love the wisdom of fellow addicted Cruiser owners.

There is a bake-lite spacer that goes between the engine block and the fuel pump. Did you transfer that with your changeover?

Bleed the air from the fuel rail by pressing on the schrader valve until fuel comes out.

oops! sorry, I was thinking FJ60.

I just went out and traced the fuel line from the fuel filter to the drivers side rail to the FPR. I can't find this schrader valve for bleeding air out of the system.

Where is it?

I am not super familiar with the layout of an FJ62 injection system,. However, almost every fuel injection system that I have seen has a bleeder valve (usually a schrader).

I'll look through the FSM. If someone knows if there is a schrader valve to bleed the fuel and knows where it is please let me know.

Thanks Dyno.

There is no bleeder that comes to find. Loosen the cold start injector line and see if you have fuel coming out.

If you have no luck by Sunday night give me a call and we can put our heads together...i will pm you my #

i am sure it is something simple that's being over looked.

I will check spark and looser cold start fuel injector to check air/pressure. I'll get back with my findings. Thanks for the help.

I loosened the bolt on the cold start injector and fuel came out so I have fuel pressure and fuel feeding to the engine. I then tried to start the car and now the starter isn't working. I jumped my car to see if it was the battery and still the starter won't kick in.

I will work with the starter and move on to checking spark after that. Once I get those two done if i still have trouble I will post here or give crazy88 a call.

Thanks for the support.

You have fuel...Now recheck the fusible link you replaced. Do you have spark ?

check all the grouds. If the pump has a bad ground it will not run properly. Get an ohm meter and check the wireing You should also check the pressure, im not sure what the psi should be but you can look it up. All else fails exchange the pump, it is rare but once in a while you can get a bad one. While you have it out blow the line.

haven't had much time to check spark. I'm planning a trip to Hawaii and leaving on Wednesday. The starter is not cooperating so I have to look into that now before I can check spark.

Are there any grounds on the fuel pump or braket inside the tank? The pump I replaced was american made and it had been spliced in. I had to try my hand at electrical work and I might have missed something. See #14 in my original post. I think the pump is working fine...

Anyways... I will report back on spark issue probalby within a week and a half when i get back from hawaii. I'm scheduling 2 days of diving and I'm looking at some night dives while I'm there as well. I love scuba and doing it in tropical hawaii is going to be awesome.

Wow, must be nice! check out my Avatar....Love Hawaii....

sorry for the hijack!

Good luck on the problem and let us know what you find.

Starter is not working. I pulled it out and put it back in. Now I can hear it engaging but it won't turn the flywheel. Could I have burnt out the motor by trying to crank my vehicle so much dealing with the fuel pump? I thought battery might be low so I had another vehicle jump me while trying to start it and still nothing. All I get is a loud clicking sound like a relay box but louder coming from the starter. The gear didn't look worn and I replaced the contacts about 1 month ago... I have a leaky rear main seal or oil pan gasket and that oil has gotten into the flywheel starter mating point. There was oil on the gear. If oil was getting into the starter would that mess it up? I'm guessing I'll have to tear down the starter and clean it. Anything obvious before I do that?

anytime i ever had starter problems i tapped it with a hammer, that always cleared it up for me. Check the battery, you may have charged it but if it is bad it will not be pushing enough amps to turn the motor over.

I tried tapping the starter. I even unbolted it and turned the gear a few times to see if it was binding. My battery has been dead so I took it out and charged it overnight. I then would try jumping the car anytime I was trying to start it. I just read LXSTACY's jumper cables post. Is it true that hooking up the negative terminal of the dead battery will not let it jump properly? I always hook up both ends on each car to the battery terminals and now I'm hearing that I should be grounding somewhere else on the dead battery's car. What's the theory behind this?

if the starter is spinning but not engaging it is the armature that has failed. you can pull it apart and try cleaning all the internals and see what happens.

i had a starter no do anything problem on my truck pulled it apart and cleaned it and re greased it and it gave me another year. till the armature failed so i just replaced it and kept it as a spare to rebuild "someday"

is it fixed?!?
Just got back from my vacation in Hawaii. I will start back up diagnosing the problem. More questions will be asked soon. :)
