Removing Rear Spoiler??? (1 Viewer)

I didn't want to start another thread on this topic, but I just returned my cruiser to the LCoT configuration by replacing the rear spoiler.

Tire pressure and wedge adjustments couldn't compensate for the dramatic loss in down-force I experienced in high-speed turns :D :D :D :D

More importantly, the rear wing does make a big difference in how dirty the rear window gets when driving on dusty roads and with windshield wiper fluid exceeding $3/gallon putting the thing back on just made good sense.

This is an example of where I find function trumps form.

I actually prefer the look of the spoiler. My truck didn't come with one though.... But then again, I like the looks of the running boards too. Guess that makes me the oddball around here.

Funny how the LX's have all the available factory bling but a lot of them don't have the rear spoiler. (phew)

Both the older and newer spoilers look lame. I think the old fin spoilers are installed at port. Seems the US LC's mainly have them. The spoilers only add poor looks and reduce the mpg's by adding more drag. Dirt on the rear window isn't a big factor since (1) you have a rear window wiper and (2) the window isn't power lowering like on the 4runner, so no dirt falls inside the rear hatch. Just another way the dealer hits buyers with unwanted bling. I've yet to see a LX with one other than the newer type, and even that's rare.

I removed my rear spoiler an hour ago ....looks 100% better ....
to fill the 4 holes on the top of the hatch i re-used the 4 allen screws that were used to attach the spoiler on the brackets , also i used teflon tape aound the threads...

I can't say I'm seeing any difference in MPG with the spoiler back on, but I have a rack, round bars and a box on top so I expect the spoiler is the least of my aerodynamic concerns. Not to mention, not getting powdered in dust every time I shut the rear hatch is nice.

I'll get the spoiler chromed, maybe then I'll get some respect from the H2 guys :flipoff2:

you get that thing chromed and your getting banned. :flipoff2:

I saw one near where I live a couple days ago... doctor/lawyer H2 in a high-end neighborhood west of Denver... H2 w/ all the bling except the 35R-28's, it would not have surprised me to see pdiddy driving this rig.

I pulled up next to a H2 one day that was complete with every "offroad" thing imaginable in nice shiny chrome. Not a spec of dirt on it(saw it in manhattan). Asked the driver "Hey you ever take that thing offroad?" He was silent for a few seconds then said "HELL NO I DONT WANT TO GET A SCRATCH OR GET THE CHROME DIRTY!

Light turned green and i drove away shaking my head, hoping some mud would fly off my truck onto his.

Anyone have dirt buildup with the AO Rack or does that help knock some air down over the back window?

Same here! Bug roof, roof rack, running boards, rear spoiler, all gone. Mine didn't have the sunroof deflector.

I have thought about painting the vents, especially the ones on my wife's '03 because it's silver and I think it would be a nice touch. But I took a peek by pulling some trim and it was a more elaborate process than I expected, so it's on the back burner (actually, the whole truck is on the back burner right now, l have some work issues to deal with).
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one taking things off - I was starting to think maybe I have some kind of mental disorder. Sunroof deflector, brush guard, plastic fender flares, roof deflector, running boards are all collecting dust in the garage. The second row seats are also out so I've got room to sleep inside with the third row seats folded up. The roof rack has been on and off and back on. I'm going to have to get the Afican Outback loadbars to vanquish it for good.

The only good thing I've bolted back on are Slee Sliders- they haven't had their virtue tested but it's nice to know I have a place jack the Hi-Lift on.

I'm confident with the rear deflector off I'll be able to get another 50 feet out of a tank of gas with the new streamlining.

Just now getting to posting up a picture of my rig after removing the rear spoiler. Very happy with how this looks.

ok so i kind of hit a pole at about 25-30 mph skufed front bumper fender and blew out the mirror .....:whoops:.....whatever .....when i took the l/c in to my body guy we came up with a plan to weld/fill paint the holes from the ugly as fu(k wing.
i think it will look cleaner then the little rubber dots.
if it wasnt in the shop it would be a wast of time but im having
the paint fixed up anyway .

the post was on a construction site and i was going to fast and sometimes i think the lc will fit in the same spots my 94 and 91 yota pickups will ....not so .

i love the black logo as well.. i got a black one for the grill and took evervthing except the badge that is not stuck on with tape off the back and i would like to change it to black to if i can find one ..i dont know if front and rear are the same?

what do you guys think of taking a old landcruiser logo and having it cut out of vinyl for a diffrent look?

how about that?
i like it more then the little dots.:D
took off most of the badging to what do you think?

i've been wanting those emblems.. i don't think i want to spend almost $300 though
