Nice. Mines busted in half but the radio still works. So just enjoying it that way. Maybe one day
If you have a broken metal mast only and the nylon is still good. You can order an OEM mast from a dealer and it will screw right on. You rig has to be an early model FJ with smooth nylon cable and NOT the teeth type nylon.

Thanks! I will take it a part and see what’s going on. If it’s a just a replacement of the metal mast that sounds awesome

unscrew the chrome nut, lift the metal mast up off the nylon. You should find a tiny nut that connects the metal mast to the smooth nylon cable. Tiny vise grips should gently undo the connection. DONT break the nylon or it is a whole other ballgame. Buy the Toyota OEM part as it is the right part.

I was doing a search on line tonight and came across this power antenna repair kit that covers most of our trucks. So if you're metal antenna mast is not broken, and all you need to replace is the nylon cable along with the metal drum i found this kit on amazon for 56 bucks with FREE shipping, below is a link.

I'd like to add to this post...The mast of my recently purchased 1994 LC was broken and kept together with duct tape, but the nylon cord was intact. I ordered an OEM part from CO for about $45.

I removed the silver metal nut and black plastic/rubber piece revealing the end of the nylon cord/metal connector.

I spent 20 minutes with needle nose piers, channel locks, and a leatherman trying to unscrew and separate the 2, not knowing that the top nut stays on and it actually separates in the middle.

After that, it was a simple matter of removing the lower portion, which is press-fit, but stuck due to the duct tape glue residue. With some needle nose pliers and some force, they separated...

After that, just install the lower portion into the main mast, screw the nylon cord back to the antenna and reinstall the black plastic /rubbery base and silver metal retaining nut. The antenna did go up and down but not all the way and made a clicking sound at both extremes. I removed the retaining nut and extended the antenna all the way up, tightened the retaining nut and now it fully retracts and extends.

Sorry for the huge pics. New here and this is actually my first SUV...ever. Hope it helps.

I recently replaced my antenna mast with a 6 3/4" antenna and mast conversion kit from Antenna Masts R Us Amazon store (AntennaMastsRus - Conversion Kit is Compatible with Toyota Land Cruiser (1990-08-1996); www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BB5YKDN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

Once I figured it out it was a very easy and straight forward process. Remove antenna mast as described above, have your power antenna unit retract in all the nylon cable, drop in the new mast, put in old grommet and screw cap, and screw in the 6 3/4" antenna. Afterward I disconnected the power to the power antenna so no one tries to raise the nylon cable. One of the previous owners had mangled the original antenna and this replacement has a pretty clean look and better reception than before.

Struggling to get the antenna out (picture 2). The coax is 'stuck' and won't come loose. Tried pulling both ways and looks like still clipped or taped inside. I've glove box off and can't get my fingers in any further.
Anyone know if the antenna can be pried off the antenna unit (see black plastic in picture 1).

From the pictures above ; could I "break" the stackable antenna to get at the part where the cable screws into it. Is that at the base of the mast? At least I can then thread into a replacement stubby?

I just pulled the large cable out through the fire wall about 1 to 2 feet. It allowed me to lay the motor assembly on a flat board to work on it under the hood. Again, from my posts, one of the most challenging and difficult repairs I have had to fight over the years. If you want to stay original it is the only way to restore original items. That stubby non-OEM solution seems to be a quick fix if you don't care about the power buttons and mast working. I was doing an OEM restoration so I took the time to do it with original parts.

Hey guys, hoping to get some advice from y’all on the antenna situation. I’d like to switch to a Ronin antenna but wanted to know if I can make this work and what else I would need for the installation? I’m gonna have a shop do the work just want to make sure I have everything they need for it. Thanks again!

..switch to a Ronin antenna ..
Interested in seeing how this works. What does it screw into on the hood? (is there a nut that comes with the package?). Doesn't have FZJ80 as a fitting option

If you read from the "details" on their web site it states, quote " -None of our antennas are compatible with powered antennas that raise and lower. These are only meant to replace fixed antennas on modern vehicles. end Quote.

Did see that. Not interested in 'powered' and hence the fixed version. Guess its a wait and see. I did buy an aftermarket stubby version but doesn't lock into hood properly

Man this is exactly what I need but no longer available. My mast is OK and my cord is OK but the little socket connector that fits at the end of the cord is missing and my mast has nothing to screw into. I'd rather not replace with the fixed connected cord mast.

Don't feel like the lone ranger, this is what hapens when there is a slow down in the world wide supply chain. Give it a few more months, and I'll bet that that kit will be available from amazon again once the world wide supply chain is restored.

Yep old thread revival, with some insight.

I replaced the whole antenna assembly on my 95 today. I could not for the life of me get the old antenna wire out from the firewall.

Ok now what? plan B.

I cut the original antenna wire at the base of the old antenna and spliced on a female end that I cut from an antenna extension cable. Bundled up the new wire on the new assembly and plugged it into the new female end that was spliced on splice. The splice is a delicate procedure but very easy.

Everything works like a charm. Now I have full antenna function just like OEM
