Right now, sitting here at work, I have Industrial Disease.

Later on tonight, I'll be Twisting By The Pool!

Mark Knopfler is my favorite guitarist of all time... And all the other musicians, (particularly the drummer) in the old Dire Straits band are stand-out too of course.

(But perhaps I concentrate on listening to the percussion just because our youngest son is a drummer...)

And 75PIG ...... I think it's best to replace all your steering balljoints.

If the rubber "grease-pouches" have been left in a disintegrated state for long (as shown in your photo), the ball-joints themselves will be damaged from moisture/rust, grit and resulting wear. (And good steering is one of the essentials that one should never compromise on.)

Soak them in penetrating oil at least overnight before attempting to separate them. And if they're really stubborn, soak them even longer..

And if they're exceptionally stubborn, a little heat from an oxy-acetylene torch while the separating pressure is being applied usually works (but you really need the concentrated heat achievable from oxy-acet because butane torches etc aren't really hot enough and if you use them, you'll probably end up heating adjacent stuff, such as your separating tool, thereby causing unwanted damage... And I accept that you may not have access to oxy-acet so this dribble here is probably irrelevant to you anyway...)

And if replacing all the balljoints, take photos and measurements before dissassembly (to aid reassembly) and remember that you'll need to readjust your toe-in afterwards.

Great thread, thanks everyone. I've got these same goofy hubs on my 1974 FJ55 and was curious how to remove them. The 1975 FSM pics are uber-helpful!

Went through this several years ago when I rebuilt the front end on my 74 pig. The 40's all seem to use a Warn Hub (several variations)
