Hey all,

I'm replacing the heat-riser gaskets, and the Remflex gasket kit comes with two.

When I put them on either side of the heat riser shield, and bolt the intake/exhaust back together, I can't get them tight enough for the manifold mounting holes to line up. ie: they would never slide on the two studs.

I assume I need this shield, and both gaskets. Are the remflex ones just too thick? do I just need one on the bottom?

Not quite sure what to do.

I appreciate it.

They should fit. Remflex gaskets are designed to crush. I have both on mine .... I think.

2 things about Remflex...

1: I brought this very issue to their attention (thickness creating mis-alignment) a year ago, and they never replied or addressed. You need to run OEM or like to get the thickness right, it can not be solved with the remflex heat riser gaskets...even torqued well beyond their specs, it's still too thick, and even if you took material from the flange's bolt "ears", the ports would be misaligned.

2: I had two intake/exhaust remflex gaskets fail rapidly...one could have been me over-torquing, one was not. The very low torque spec on these gaskets allows for shimmy/movement from the manifolds to tear up and eject the portion of gasket above the #3 and #4 ports.

After my experience, I could not recommend them at all.

I got it on there. Seems the key was leaving everything loose, got it as close as I could to the studs, and then as I tightened down on the joining bolts, the mounting holes lined up, and it slid right on the studs.

Then I torqued them down to about 10 ft lbs.

Then I thought to myself, "did I put that heat riser shield in there upside down?" I don't *think* I did, as it would interfere with the plate.....I hope. We'll see

Got all of the mounting bolts threaded up, and going to torque them down.

I hope I have better luck than you Trapper!

So, if Remflex is an issues because of it's thickness, what would be a good gasket? Fel-Pro? I hear they are preferable to OEM?

In the past I've had luck with Fel-Pro. I've read that the best gasket is the F engine gasket as it has copper crush rings around the ports.

they are talking about the two gaskets that go on either side of the defletor plate in the heat riser assembly that go in between the intake and exhaust manifold, not the in/ex to head gasket....

there are no copper crush rings on the gaskets being discussed.

I was referring to the intake / exhaust manifold gasket in my post.

I have used the fel-pro gaskets for in-between the manifolds with good luck.

Yes, I got that.

This is not a thread on in/ex to head gaskets.

Just trying to avoid confusion, thats all.

Yeah, I am speaking specifically about the square-ish gaskets where the intake and exhaust bolt together.

I finished buttoning it up today, and everything is solid.

Gained an inch of vacuum, and the thing idles much smoother now. I'm at 19in now.

I still have a light clapping under load, but sitting still and getting on the gas, you can't hear it.

I suspect the J tube where it joins the EGR cooler. I've heard of some people being able to pull this right out without loosening the nut. Mine didn't come right out, but it had a 1/4" of play back and forth.

I have two extra remflex gaskets that I think are for the F intake/exhaust union. If anyone is interested, let me know.

We'll see how long it lasts!

Reviving an old thread....I know originally the post was about the two gaskets where the intake sits on the exhaust but I just had to give you my experience with the I/E gasket as it was mentioned in this thread.

The Remflex gasket seems WAY to thick to go on there correctly while using the stock length bolts.

I'm taking it all off and starting over with an OEM gasket. I also don't the really low torque value Remflex suggests. I don't see how it would seal well even if the gasket is designed to crush.

Anyway, this sucks!
