So I pulled off my rear lock off the hatch of my FJ62 - just a bunch of crustiness on it, wanted to wire wheel it all.
But the little round gasket around the outside of the hatch just broke up.
Where can I get a replacement or what do yall recommend for DIY?

Whoa, mine didnt look like that at all, just the lock 'button' standing proud from the hatch
I'll have to swing by Toyota or check amayama and see if there's a different style that matches what I had

Perhaps a simple & modest hard or soft rubber o-ring or vulcanized rigid fibre flat gasket of an appropriate inner/outer diameter without impeding locking depth requirements would suffice? Any local hardware store of merit or web search should be able to supply an adequate facsimile. Could be a fun search with rewarding options…give us your final solution.

So I had an idea
I wanted to attempt today but it got super windy and I didnt feel like being outside.
but it'll involve my laser cutter and some rubber gasket material.
I used some calipers to measure and we'll see what I can come up with.
Hopefully tomorrow

you simply need a real high quality marine grade & UV grade round O-Ring ,

- i have the O.D. spec. i have used in the past noted in my lock and key tech. journal , ill post it below when i have a chance to confirm it
- the O.D. spec is the actual round part of the O-Ring itself ,
- the actual I.D. will be the wide part between / inside the actual inside radius of the entire O-Ring ,
- this will be in metric / JIS millimeter format ....
- both details matter here and work together equally to achieve a long term water tight / weather proof seal , without compromising the final setting home position of the Push-Button FJ60 Manual Analoge ,& FJ62 Power Actuated lift hatch lock cylinder assy's

Toyota Japan created the reversible ( 2-Sided ) passenger vehicle key and filed the original Patent on it too ,
the 1967 FJ55 used the short and stubby

the 1967 Publica , Corona & 1000 car models used a slightly longer version from the squared off right angle shoulder step to the front tip

Alright. It is done.
I mean, it is, but I may redo it to make the OD a little wider.
So using gasket making rubber, as well as a minute on my laser software, it took 10 seconds for the laser to do it's job and cut the gasket out.
And it fits very well!

Anyone ever need one, just holler.
