i am moving my gas tank to the rear of my rig my neighbor gave me a new 1990 jeep cherokee tank to try out it fit perfectly inside the frame behind the croosmember. the problem i have is how to hook it up . the tank has 2 holes about 1inch dia. on top i think they are some kind of breather and the main hole for the sending unit .Will the jeep sending unit work with my orig gauge and what do i do with the other 2 holes i will try to post some pics tommorrow.

Take old sender out and hook it up to the gauge and make sure it still works. Once you confirm it does work and works properly unhook it a measure the resistance (ohms) of it at full, half and empty. The compare that to your Heep sender. If it is within spec then it will work. If not and it provides to much you could modify the arm to where it will provide less. It's all in the angle of the float and if you have room in the tank (baffles get in the way sometimes). If the resistance is not enough well your screwed using the Heep sendor. You could try and modify the cruiser sendor to fit the tank. Lot of work on that though.

Sometimes sticking with the original is the best way. Especially if you want it to work right. Nothing wrong with the tank under the seat.

Then look up the ohm specs of the Heep sendor. A Heep sender after the late 80's was 0-90 ohms E-F. A cruiser sendor is 120-17ohms E-F. So it's backwards. If your gonna get the gauge correct you will need to source a sendor that mounts in the tank that reads 120-70ohms or maybe buy one of Armatures kit's and put a new gauge in it's place.

And post up some pics. The tank relocation is a good project everyone wants to know about. So far all I've seen is aftermarket and the s-10 swap. The heep swap is new to me.

Slight correction; he is putting the heep tank into his 1971, not his 1973, so the factory sender is 110 ohms empty and 3 ohms full, with a 7 volt drop built into the sender. Had he been doing this in his 1973 (9/72 and newer) his factort sender would be 120/17.

heres a couple pics of the tank i dont know if this will work
