I live in Simpsonville, SC and I'm thinking about getting my engine rebuilt in my 97 LX450. Do you guys have any recommendations on where I can go. I just moved here from California and I don't know anybody out here. Thanks in advance.

Man, finding someone to rebuild a 1FZ-FE is getting harder and harder to do. Toyota no longer does them, they replace them, same with trannys. I had that choice just a while ago and went with a motor that had less miles etc... I didn't do a full rebuild, but I double checked everything I could, and still came up with some problems. I wouldn't even begin to know where to point you. Nowhere in WNC that I know of, and I don't know if i'd trust just anyone with that motor, it would be labor heavy to do a total rebuild. Now if you are just talking doing the head... Lots of people would do that. Just depends on how deep into it you want to or need to get....

Good Luck!

I'd call two maybe three people and see what they say.

Ralph Hayes Toyota our UC sponsor. They give us 25% off parts and labor.

I'd call ACC down in Atlanta

I'd call Dover cylinder head here in Greenville.

Glenn down in Charleston has rebuilt a couple of 80 motors. I know he did it for himself, not sure if he would take a customers though. He might have slowed down enough though, so I would check with him as well. Lextech Auto in Charleston, SC.

don't know if carquest will assemble the engines but the last engine i built one i had all the engine/head work done there and i assembled the engine myself.

Located on Stone in downtown Greenville, the guy who runs the machine shop is very old school, knows his stuff and has been doing it much longer than i've been around.

Peter Merriam in Duluth, GA is a great guy and i seen a fzj motor there when i visited w/ Adam.

We have a good rebuild-able FZJ short block at the shop if you would like us to provide a "new" bottom end.

These folks would be my first point of contact for something like that...
