Anyone know a good Cruiser mechanic around New York City or Long Island?

Closest I know of is Cruiser Solutions in New Hampshire. They're great, but I'd like to hear if there's anyone close to that caliber in the NY Metro area.

NY Metro

Also looking for a LC mechanic in NY Metro/Westchester. gotta be somebody out there?

I tried getting in touch with Metro Land Cruisers (NJ) a while back and got no response. I now see the same email address selling cruiser parts on craigslist, so I assume he went bust. I've used the following, neither of which is a Cruiser specialist, but both of which do decent work:

L & M Foreign Cars - way out Utica Ave in Brooklyn - Billy and crew are expensive, but honest, and do high quality work. Billy has owned a LC or two. Best with engine/mechanical stuff, less knowledgeable on suspension. They replaced my carb, various hoses, pulled out my steering box for a rebuild, etc. They're a pain in the ass to get to and Billy can be moody. L & M Foreign Cars

Tony and Sons in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. (718) 384-1210 - super nice, honest, economical, and diligent, but not LC specialists in any way. Used them for cooling system overhaul, oil change, inspection, and A/C idle set. I'd use them for anything simple. If you've got a complicated mechanical diagnostic issue, I'd recommend L&M.

All that said, I'd still love to find someone who primarily works on Land Cruisers and knows the ins and outs. There are some guys in Brooklyn who specialize in Rovers and I've thought about contacting them to see if they know Cruisers.

He is working out of "Red 9 Fabrication & Speed" in Northern Kentucky.

I have been friends with Luke for around 15 years. He is a great guy to deal with and does great work. He does general mechanic work, specializing in Land Cruisers. He worked For James Asty at Land Cruisers Connection in the late 90's and has been in business for himself for a few years now.

Red 9 fab is owned by Mike Karwath, who won the Top Truck Challenge in 2010. They do everything at the shop from custom tube work/scratch built chassis to selling aftermarket parts.

Nice big shop, very well equipped with some talented people.

Cruiser mechanic in Houston

Javier's Crawl Shop in Houston

Just had my newly purchased fj 62 there for some maintenance and was very pleased with the work he did. He fixed the major problems and instead of trying to make more money off of me, he did some preventative maintenance and let me know the condition. I was clearly expecting to run into deeper pockets.

Any suggestions in CT? I'm a wicked amateur doing what I can to combat oil leaks, a possible exhaust leak at the manifold and I'm also trying to just cross my fingers on the rail rust... So far at 154,000 miles my truck runs pretty good.

Eugene OR

Great up and coming mechanic in Eugene, OR. Fabrication capabilities, engine swaps, etc... professionally trained mechanic with a body work and finish professional for a wife. They do good work, limited experience w/land cruiser specifically but you can't beat his prices in the area. Highly recommend.

I have been going to Miles Toyota for years now, he is located in Bozmean, Mt. I saw him listed on here the other day and just wanted to give my endorsement. He is not the fastest but he knows what is going on, I have never had to say much just tell him what I think it might be and it comes back running like a top. He has also never overcharged me for anything he has done.

TOYOTA GUY TO THE BONE!!!!!

Go check him out if your in the area.

Looking for a reputable, fairly-priced body shop in Texas (preferably central Texas) for patch work on a wheel well and quarter panel, and eventually a nice paint job.

I'll definitely provide a trip report once finished, thanks!

Update

Valley Hybred Stockton, Ca
Ever since I had Georg work on my 60 it has been running the best ever. He has a way of massaging new life into it. The sixty must feel the Cruiser Love through the wrenches. Dude knows his $#!%.

As it turns out someone else was doing all the work on my 60 the whole time. From what I understand there are a lot of unfinished rigs and owner waiting months to get them finished. It's too bad for those poor cruiser heads. I'm done with the deal changer tantrum thrower for good.

So I'm thinking of putting a 2H ( from a forklift) into a 1986 FJ60. Some questions that maybe some one can answer or point to the right thread. Is it a bolt on conversion? Can I use the same cooling system from the FJ? Will the 4 speed transmittion work with the 2H diesel? Is their a way to turbo without spending $3,300??? Do I have to change the wiring harness? Thanks Joe G
