v8 Vortec Swap

Anyone who is interested in a v8 Chevy Vortec swap in the Southeast (Georgia) should contact me and I will put them in touch with an amazing mechanic that does great custom work in LaGrange GA!

His shop is a backyard, per project, type thing with fabrication machines, a lift, and 8 bays... He is a meticulous tech - who graduated from NASCAR tech school - and did a great job on my FJ62 5.3 Vortec + 4L60e conversion. And his prices were very reasonable. I couldn't be happier with the work.... or the results.

He's also currently squeezing a small block v8 in a '86 forerunner with 1 ton axels underneath! Its a monster.

If you want to go the custom way... I will stand behind his work.

This thread is just too time consuming when you're trying to find a cruiser mechanic in your area:frown:

And although the "search function" is an option, several have complained about the difficulty in finding someone nearby, especially if they're "in dire need."

It appears that ukaviator has taken the bull by the cojones and invested the time and energy to list these folks by state, and done a hell of a job in the process:cheers::cheers:.

It's a great benefit to the MUD Members IMO!

https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/349535-cruiser-mechanics-listed-state.html

If there are any missing, contact him and he can/will update the list appropriately.

1) May I suggest that we either close this thread and replace it with a link to the new one,
2) Add a link to this one and leave it open (might get a bit confusing if someone comes in after the link)
3) Make his thread a STICKY (IMHO the most preferable solution):cheers: (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Uncle Woody?:D:clap::clap:)

It' much easier to use:cheers:

Thanks.

I can't seem to find the original post, but who recommended Dave Mays in Gainesville? Looking for someone for transmission work in the Gainesville area.

thanks

His info is on the new list.

Dont know who recommended him, you will have to search through the 18 pages to find it, but here is his info:

84 Fj60 Overhaul

Im having my 84 fj60 cruiser rebuilt:D pretty much the whole thing
and was wondering if you guys would recomend Gary at Mudrak
or J and M. Im in Truckee Ca, Gary is in Sonoma and J and M is is Grass Valley (they being the closest to me). Gary seems to be a dedicated cruiser master and im leaning his direction (even though he's about 2 hours past J and M). I have no info on J and M yet, people here speak of both being good. This is gonna cost 8k, so I was hoping anyone with experience with either of these (or someone else I may have overlooked) might point me in the right direction or have some more info or experience in this situation to share .

All and any info will be valued and appreciated
Aloha

Darrel Jones in San Marcos, CA did it again!! Had my FJ60 back on the road very quickly and for a very fair price.

In the Portland area your cant go wrong with Tony and Matt who own and operate Land Cruiser NW. These guys are awesome and cant say enough good things about them and their work.
Heres a link: Index

Cheers

Does anyone know of a good mechanic on the North Oregon or South Washington coast near Astoria?

Tulsa, OK anyone? I saw Sam's Offroad listed on the list by state, and whoever put that on there should be stoned. That shop has the worst reputation in all of Tulsa for their shadiness. I don't know a single person who would even consider bringing anything to them. That should be removed asap IMHO.

Do you have a personal experience with this shop you would like to share?
If anyone else wants to chime in as to this shops 'shadiness' and vote it off the list I will remove them.
All those names and shops have been recommended by our fellow mud members.

Buying a cruiser in Pasadena and I'm from out of state.

Shop to do an honest inspection?

Which Pasadena, CA or TX?

If So. Cal., try::
Mark's Off-Road(Mark)-Burbank
K&H Imports(Rich)-Canoga Park
TLC4x4(Jay)-Van Nuys
Toymasters(Virgil)-Studio City

Good Luck!

Well, personally no. Family - yes. My brother brought his Jeep there for a motor swap. Was back in there at least 5 times because of problems that they never fixed. He ended up selling the Jeep because it never ran properly after they touched it. Ask any 4x4 guy anywhere in Tulsa about Sams and they will steer you far away from it. Hell, ask in the Green Country section and see how many postive votes they get.

It doesn't matter to me if you delete it or not - I have no skin in this game...
