Our old mower's 10A902 engine is in dire need of a full rebuild. Granted I'm sure I could get a whole new engine for less than a couple hundred bucks, but since we have our reel mower for backup, I'd like to bench the old Briggs and rebuild it, just for the sake of tinkering.

Is there a rebuild kit offered for these old engines? I checked the B&S website and searched the Google fields but didn't turn up anything.

what could have possibly changed in these engines for the last 100 years? I bet they are still about the same. Should not be too hard to find parts that fit even with more recent model numbers.

I don't think there's a "kit" . You have to get the parts needed . They have kits for some stuff, carbs, rings etc but no "master rebuild " kit That I can think of .
You'll most likely have to pull it apart and see what needs replacing then order up them .
There was a thread a couple of years ago on here about rebuilding a B/S motor with a bunch of pixs and tips

Pretty much anything can still be gotten new, so replacing stuff shouldn't be a concern. At minimum the gasket kit and a new set of rings I think will be in order. Hoping I can just get away with honing the cylinder wall to remove the scoring I saw in thereto last summer. I've ordered a few things from ereplacementparts and had good luck so they're my regular source. Fortunately I did see the gasket kit so that's a step in the right direction. Finding the right governor springs is going to be a PITA though I'm sure. There are several different options.
