hells teeth Watrob! what a 40!

this has got to be one of the best 40 builds ive ever seen. love the 12HT and all the attention to detail. its something i dream of doing to my 45, being able to spend this amount of time and effort and making it as clean as this. sadly, mine is my daily driver, and i doubt i would ever have the time to do this to her. and thats with out considering the monetary value on all of it as well.

question, do you have dimensions for that bearing you installed in the bottom of the steering column?

first class build bud. epic ;)

also, as no one has asked this yet.... that a Ferrari in the backround of some of the engine rebuild pics, yours? :p

Hey vossie it's a Ferrari California I did ask in one of his other threads

thanks. the poly bush i have in there works well, but want a more permanent solution. wonder if they will ship to Zimbabwe :hmm:

I think you will find Kurt will send it anywhere you like, its not much bigger that a match box so sending it air mail to you would not be all that expensive.

How is Harare these days? I was there many years ago, also did Botswana, South Africa and few other neighbouring states?

Harare is great! Jacarandas are out so its all very pretty over here at the moment. Were you on Safari or?

Ok cool, will have to get in touch with Kurt then.

I took the family for a 3 week plus holiday, did Victoria Falls, 3 game park/lodges, fished for Tiger fish, the Lost City Resort, Mauritius (did Marlin fishing), had a really good time, lots to see. The closest I have been back to South Africa is a couple trips to the Maldives.

Your wildlife is amazing compared to Snakes, Crocs & Kangaroos here?

This is my stomping grounds now, something like 90 miles of coastline. House is about 100 off the beach and there is no road, beach access only. To give you some idea how long this beach is I circled the Lighthouse for size.

Great Build! If you ever need someone to polish and put fuel in the 40, just let me know, I'm only down the road! I'd also take it for a lap just to make sure the battery stayed charged. Will hopefully see you cruising up Teewah someday. We nearly had another Cherry Venture to play on hey

Saw that on the news, looks like great long weekend coming up, light winds with sunny warm to hot days, yep got to get the 40 finished and get the jet-ski back in the water?

I just read your list...and you think you'll get the jet ski in the water? You must work different to me. I finish one job then spend 20 mins standing back admiring a job well done. I'd need 2 weeks to get through all that, not 2 days haha. Will be good to see a pic of the ski behind the 40.

Lucky it's a long weekend

Lunchtime Sunday............Start your engines

Monday morning test run up to Double Island Point

Forgot to add to the list, the second last item, "Fish Rod Holder"

Most of the items on this list are items that have been already install in this tub previously, so its more a re-install, so no drilling of holes. I did most of the pre-install stuff over the last few weeks.

Painting the inner guards with matt black paint is just touch up, the same goes for the inner tub, 4 bolts hold the seats to frame and 4 bolts hold the frame to the tub, I just took them out to gal the seat frames this time around and also repaint the long range fuel tank.

The reason for the list is my son-in-law is coming up, he is getting a copy so I don't spend half the day tell him what's next.;)

Have you used an engineer up this way for anything? I'm at CooIum. I need to get a mount for a rear seat frame certified so I can get it mod plated, then I can throw the kids seats in my 40 and head to DI with the family.

Haha very funny...sounds like a typical father/son in law relationship. Hope it all goes back together well for you. You've done an amazing job thus far

My tub passed as a complete build back in 2008, I used a rear forward facing bench seat out of a 44 (believe 43's & 46's had them also, and some 47's), and used the oem seat mounts all round. Qld Transport signed off on the completed tub, they dictated the roll cage design out of 2" steel, 20mm foam fire retarded padding over roll cage etc which allowed for the rear seat. They give you a letter of compliance. My mod plates don't say fibreglass tub, it just says 5 seat capacity, my letter covers the body.

If I were you I would get the oem seat & brackets and you won't need an engineer for welded seat frames because 44, 43 & 46 came from factory this way. Also check you original compliance plate does it say as standard a 2 seater or 4 or 5 seat capacity? then you don't need a mod plate if they are oem seats. You can change your seats as long they are ADR approved and bolt straight up to your frames or you stick to OEM's

I know these seats are rare, otherwise I would buy a tumble certified seat which comes with engineers cert & frames, but they are expensive. If you can stick to oem it make life a lot easier, also remember some of these aftermarket certified seats come with weight limitations (kids only) whereas the oem's don't.

Also if I remember correctly my front seats had to recline forward for access if you used a forward facing rear bench seat, which in other words if you have changed your front seat's backs to ridge'd your will have to change them for a reclining model as you cannot gain access to the bench seat from the rear of the 40.

Got about 95% of the job list done, took a few photos, building the throttle dampener bracket took me all Saturday morning, lost fair bit of time. Re-fitted the guards and apron & bezel, installed the transmission hump after cutting out the areas for the gear & t-case sticks, fitted the long range fuel tank, fitted seats & seat brackets.

Installed the battery cradle & battery and finished off the wiring, checked circuits of glow relays & fuel relays, also installed fuel return line.
