 Well I am...

Its not the height that Im worried about... Just the question weather or not to go rear steer...would it be worth it.. or just a waste of money and more for the Bling than for the functionality? ... for an 80 searies.

If you don't mind limiting the hell out of the steering and just want to get a little advantage on steering, then go for it...

If you don't count the cost of the axles, going from 2-wheel full hydro to 4-wheel isn't that much more $$..

Im only going to be about an extra 3" higher than Tiredirons lift with volvo portals and tires <---(edited)..... and he has his tires tucked in a lot further than I do. Looks like its always going to tip. but havent heard it yet.

Nope, I'll still on my feet...
I'm 6" wider now with 17" MRW beadlocks and 40" Iroks...

Why would you want to run 53" tires? Get to work and let's see some wheeling pictures;)

Id really like to get the 395-85-20 XZL's (46") but there $1400.00 each, the 53" are only 200 each. 49" I-Rocks run $600, so.. the 53's are the cheapest, just there 7" taller than what I want to run....and 320lbs each...
Ohh well.. have to break the axles in somehow..

I love that ride, Cant wait to post my finished product.

Whats teh back spacing your using? and rim width?

Good lord thats a lot of lift...Your tumble over in a stiff breeze. The more you wheel the more you find out you want large tires with the smallest lift possible..

That is sillybazilly. I really like the way you built your 80.

Project FJ80, IMHO I think installing rear steer on a street driven 80 series is a complete waste. That said, I look forward to seeing your finished creation if you do it.

i would sugest looking around more before you jump to doing that much lift and that big of tires i think you will thanks us later, that is just huge and wont fit anywhere. so buy my rims :flipoff2:

Quote so buy my rims
lol... I agree compleatly on the 53",.. I really dont want to go that big.. though.. at least 44"-46" Just to fill the gap.

Also, I would not run the rear stear on the streets. To dangerious for the way I drive... They would be locked out ..somehow.. then unlocked for the trail. ..well maybe for mall cruising.:grinpimp:

What are the LTBs?

I agree compleatly on the 53",.. I really dont want to go that big.. though.. at least 44"-46" Just to fill the gap.

Why would you need 44"- 46" to fill in the gap? I have the 2.5 OME springs and lowered bumpstops and the 40" more than fill the gap.

Even as wide as mine is it's still tippy, I have to be careful in off camber situations. I like the idea of the engine and trans setup and even portal axles but the 6" lift and super large tires are going to hurt you more than help you.

You can build what ever you want but I can tell you after driving mine as a DD for 8 months and wheeling it at least two weekends a month for the last year that even with 40" tires mine is not very road friendly and on the trail it's only limitation is the size of my nads:eek:

TiredIron.. Your 80 looks even better with the new wheels / tires on it..

X2

project....is camber of any concern? I"m sitting at about 9.5" with the wider 14.5" toyo 38's getting ready to space a little more to get even more stability b/c it just doesn't feel as right as I would like sitting that high.

It seems the more I want to do on the 80, the more I want to chop off my rear end and get rid of that 80 fat ass, but I guess fat trucks need love too.:grinpimp:

Can't wait to see the build and see the truck on the trail, if it fits:flipoff2:

I am figuring it will look funny with all the lift and only 37" tires.... like when I first lifted her with stock tires.

TiredIron, How wide are you from tire to tire? As I will be using this as a daily driver, and something I want to run from Arizona, to Alaska to South of the border, (lots of on road driving) It just might be more benificial to stay under 44" of tire. Im open to all suggestions, and actuall experances.

It sounds like I should probably run what I have now, and wait on the larger tires untill after I get a feel for what I have. Which saves lots of $$$$.
That would also allow me to go a few more inches wider on the axles rather than on the tires which will only add more weight and strain on the drivetrain.

What you are proposing to build will absolutly suck on the road..

lose the lift, put the portals on and wheel it with the tires you have..

BTW, lots of on road driving and Krawlers is not a good thing either.. Unless you have a ton of extra cash laying around to replace tires every 8K...
