I think that if you're looking at 14" of lift with 44's you need to be trailering the truck especially if you want to drive such distance. As much as I hate to say it the 80 is not user friendly when it come to super big lifts on and off the road. I've had clearance issues getting through trails both height and width. Have you thought of coilovers? My current shock setup helps to better balance the weight and drive of the truck on the road and at high speeds.

Also if you're sitting on 44's or even 40's I think it is safe to say that you will have enough ground clearance as is on stock axles. I guess I am kind of lost as to where you want to be at the commencement of the build.

If it's to only crawl the truck the 44's, crazy lift, etc. might have purpose. If you're set on driving the truck long distances I'd keep the tires under 40" and the lift to a minimum.

An 8hr drive in a big lifted 80 fully loaded truly requires your full attention and respect b/c 2 seconds looking at the blonde driving next to you and you're running over the kids in the mini van in the right lane.

forgive the long shpeel.

BTW, lots of on road driving and Krawlers is not a good thing either.. Unless you have a ton of extra cash laying around to replace tires every 8K...

Think about how much those portals cost, maybe he does. Certainly not struggling to get by.

Defentally not struggling, I have a 2nd job just to fund the build. My wife is a RN, so that helps too, and me being a diesel mechanic, I can do almost all of the work myself saving lots of money in labor.

I am wanting the best of both worlds, but can deal with a harsh ride on the road, Driving from Arizona to San Diego back and forth is no problem. Im used to driving alot. Sure its not like driving an X5, but its not a BMW either. If I have to sacarifice the tire life to get to the trail, then so be it. but im not gonna run a tire thats not going to preform when I get off the road in another country, or, where there are no service stations to be found.

The reason for the higher lift is because I will be running a Cummins 6BT Diesel in place of the stock I-6 gasser. Also the reason for the Axles, transmission and transfercase., I need parts that are going to hold up to the gobs of Tq. and hp that the diesel puts out. Which is in another thread.

That also keeps me in a lower RPM limit, giving me a max. of around 65-75MPH, Anymore than that and fuel milage goes to crap. So its not like im going to be blowing by traffic weaving in and out.

Mace: "What you are proposing to build will absolutly suck on the road"..

That might be true, ... but I wont know untill I try. Though it does make me wonder about the people who buy H2s lift them 16" high, run 49" IROKs and fly down the freeway at 85mph. ... They seem to beable to keep em on the road just fine. I know since ive had them pass me out here in Phoenix.

Then stop asking questions and do it. You obviously know exactly what you are in for and are prepared for it.

Just waiting on the final casting for the axles, After that, I can get this project finished.
