I was just noticing in this pic:

that the spoilers are as oxidized as mine.:o Did they come this way new, for anti-glare? (Doubt it)
I was wondering if anyone had re-done theirs, and if so, what did you use? Rattle can? Powder coat? Monstaliner?
I know, I know...tear it off and throw it away.
But until I do...what say ye ? :hhmm:

Just use some plasti dip. With plasti dip you can change it up anytime you want. I plasti dipped the gold chrome highlights on my lx450 and am very pleased with the results. But yeah, if you're going to have your rig for a long time you will someday want to take the roof rack and spoiler off. They'll introduce rust problems at some point.

I don't have one on my 80, but on my old 4Runners I sprayed them with a satin or semi-gloss rattle can. Remove them from the stand-offs, scotch pad, cleaner & spray.

I think they came in a satin black, maybe an epoxy as there is no primer and it holds up pretty well. When I had the deflector off (to repair rust on the roof under the mounting brackets) I very lightly scuffed the deflector with autobody fine grit sandpaper then sprayed it with a few coats of rattle can satin black epoxy IIRC. Many of us have found that these are rust magnets, but there are a few different ways to mitigate that problem when the wing is put back on (do a search for rear+deflector+rust)

IME the deflector does a good job keeping the rear window clean(er) and when driving in the rain it does blow the water off the hatch window for better rearward visibility. FWIW.

My 80 doesn't have one, but my 4Runner does. It was very faded at one point. I took it off and painted it with Duplicolor "Trim Paint". Great stuff... Looks great over 5 years later.

This is my thoughts as well. I dont have one (poverty package). I keep meaning to find one in the classifieds or whatnot and properly attach. The seem to really help in rain and snow.

the mounts are great spots for rust to develop, though

We don't allow rust in So Cal.
