Hello all,
I was thinking about pulling the radiator out of the front of my 78FJ40, and mounting it in the back, Because when ever i go off road the radiator always gets caked in mud and crap, and starts to over heat. i was wondering if anyone had done this before, im also wondering if i did that, would i need to get a more powerfull waterpump??

Thanks Guys :)

I think you'd be looking at real airflow issues.

it is only a trail rig, and i was thinking i would fit a 16inch fan on switch so i can turn the fan on and off.

I've seen a ton of Big block trucks and some jeeps do it... usually without a fan on it too. Where were you planning on mounting it... If you have jumpseats or passengers of any kind in the back theres a pretty good chance they could burn themselves on it.. heh.. or have the fan give them a new hair cut.

Not sure on the water pump, but it couldn't hurt right?

Look in hardcore corner. Waggoner just did this with a 45 body on an 80 frame.

The 80 waterpump pushes the fluid fine, so I would expect that a healthy 2F on would as well.

Swamp cooler, swamp cooler....

Hi, yeah i was thinking i would cut the rear panel out and mount it in there, put a sheld around it so none of the gear in the back smach into it, no one will be in the back. ill head over to the hard core corner and have a look around, thanks for the info guys,. oh what is a swamp cooler?

the pump will work fine use the least amount of elbows in your lines schedule 80 pvc pipe works good you will have 2 of these through or under your truck most of the guys here mount them on the roll bar rough the end of the pipe with 36 grit so the hose will bite into it a little or use the cement for the pipe you dont want these coming apart burn city

I have an even cheaper solution.
What if you went to the autoparts store and got a universal windsheild washer resivoir/pump and set up some pissers to spray the rad whenever it gets to loaded up with mud and junk?

Its what I would try before putting the rad in the back.

just my 0.02.

why not just hook up some windshield wipers to it as well? :) hell, that can't possibly work can it? with true 'mud', weak little sprays of water are not going to remove anything. has this actually been done somewhere?

:) Hello,
Na window spray things wouldnt work, have problems with a high powered hose gettting the mud/clay out,i usually end up picking it out:frown: thinking i will run radiator hoses through the cab and put a tin sheld over them, so if it burst i dont get burnt:o, also putting it in the cab will prevent it from being crushed. might even be able to make a little oven:popcorn: in the cab.
I looked at how Waggoner did it, was not to keen, took up to much room, how do you put the water in it?

cheers :)

Nope, she just told me not to play with my food, use to make little volcanos out of mashed sbuds, and have tomato sauce as the lava.:bounce:
