Rear heater motor frozen

I have read in FAQ about replacing the heater blower motor but most talked about the front heater. My rear heater blower is frozed up, should I see about getting it rebuilt, get a new one, or replace it with some other compatible model? In FAQ some had replaced the front bower motor with one from a 90+ ford escort, is there something like that for the back motor? By the way the cruiser is a 72.

the rear heater blower motors arent hard to take apart. it might take 15min to get it apart.

I doubt you will find anything other than another used rear heater motor as a replacement.

You should take it apart, clean it up, and look into purchasing new bearings. I'm sure it's rebuildable with a little effort.

Unless you have rust, corrosion, or physical damage, you should be able to disassemble, clean, and run it. I very recently overhauled my rear heater motor, and disassembly took all of 15 min's, like cruiserbrett said. You have nothing to lose with a tear-down and inspect.

I took mine apart , had the main assembly powdercoated, and the tiny "radiator" re-cored. the disassembly picture is in the toyota body and chassis manual.

i sprayed the crap out of mine with brake cleaner and chucked the shaft into an electric drill. Also it grounds through the bottom. The two wires in are both hot. make sure it is grounding and that the capacitor is good.

I took the rear heater blower motor apart this morning and it's not looking good, it has a lot of rust, the wires look melted together and the board thing that the wires connect to is broken, can I get that part somewhere? There is a alternator/starter rebuild shop near by, should I take it to them and see what they think?

Good idea on the auto-electrical shop. They should piont you in the right direction.

if you need a rear heater pm me I have one that i just had pressure tested and cleaned and the motor works great.

I just went through this over the weekend, The part that held the brushes broke and it was mighty dirty, Luckily I had an FJ60 rear heater, Its almost identical, Other than the end of the armature, 55 had a hole in the shaft, 60 had a flat spot and threaded end and a plug.

I took the motor to the alternator/starter shop and they said it's a gonner. We had a moment of silence then called his supplier to see if they could get me a new one which they couldn't. Is there some other little motor that could be adapted to work or do I need a old cruiser motor? By the way, the heater part is in good shape, it's just the motor that's dead.

Like I posted above, Look for a 60 series maybe even a 62 series and check the rear heater, As for just the motor...I have no idea

sounds like you want to go with a stock replacement. But there are other options. After I put in an AL tub, I wanted to leave the rear area "open".

Made this center console, and installed a rear facing box heater from a local semi truck supplier. Hooked it up to the stock switch, and ran heater hose from the stock location
