Guys and gals, I've been working with @Awl_TEQ to help him tool up for replacement rear frame cross bars (the end of the frame where the bumperettes bolt up) for pre-'74 FJ40s.

It looks like there were 3 different configurations: '62-67; '68-only; and '69-73. These 3 differ only in the locations of some of the holes.

Using my early '64 and the '65 of @HelloKitty65 for measurements, I'm pretty comfortable that we have the '62-67 dialed in. And we are really close with the other two, but I need a couple cross-checks of a few holes as confirmation that I have it right.

What we need is the hole size, spacing (vertically) and distance from the edge of the frame rail for the reflector holes. These measurements can come from any '68-73 FJ40.

We also need the distance from the edge of the rail of the lower hole for the tail light bracket for '69-73. The 2 holes for these larger lights are staggered, the lower hole is farther inboard.

I think with these few cross-checks, I can provide Kevin with what he needs to finalize his CAD designs and he can add these items to his catalog.

Thanks!

68 Thru 73 model is the same except early 69 model the tail lights got bigger and the mounting hole where off set. Would have to look but when the tail light changed they was also a mounting difference.

Following. I am looking for the same thing and was able to send a lot of those dimensions in a PM, but not accurately to the outside light holes due to the twist in my cross-member. I hope someone can provide them

Exactly. What we need is the location of the two holes on each end for the reflectors, and the lower offset hole for the '69-73 tail light.

My dads12/68, which is the same as our 12/71 build. Ill try to grab a measurement later this afternoon.

I have a 9/67 (68 model) & 10/69 (70 model). They have the two different tail lights. The 69-73 has a fixed nuts for the tail light and mounted to the front while earlier used nuts and bolts. Those mount behind the frame.

Unfortunately I don't have all my cruisers and parts together. I believe the tail light bracket from 61 thru the early 69 model year were the same size just the hole for light itself was different. Also believe the bumperette moved to the same location as the smaller outer of two of the four smaller holes outside the four holes for the pintle hook on the earlier thru 67 model. Spacing is different up and down for the bumperette than the rear step. Have a 61-67 & 69-73 rear frame members at another locations. To compare.

You need to include the 73 model in that group. Rectangular tail lights started with the 74 model. On the end if it didn't a fixed nuts wouldn't be that big a deal to use a loose nut.
Thanks, I corrected all my posts and the title.

@Jdc1 - Great. I've marked the things I need on this picture.

View attachment 1742011

Reflector: 4.5mm holes (for 4mm studs) on 50mm centers. Top hole 75.66mm from left edge of the hole to the left end of the frame. Bottom hole 76.64mm. I don't believe the end of the frame is machined square.

Combination light mounting holes appear punched, 9mm holes for the 8mm bolts. No captured nuts. 26.62mm from left edge of the hole to the left end of the frame.

I have pics of the frame, but can't post them now with the :princess: managing the honey do list.;)I'm

Thanks to all. Between the comments and measurements here, plus some pics and numbers from others, I think I have what is needed.

One thing I've noted, it appears there may be some variation in the '69-73 rails, in that some have captured nuts for the tail light brackets, and some do not. I don't think that is a fatal issue either way. Could easily make the rails with or without and people could adapt as needed.

Could they be done with just a small pilot drill that people could drill out/tap/install captured nuts as needed? @Awl_TEQ can put me down as an order once these are done for my 11/69.

Probably best to discuss the captured nut deal with Kevin.

I tend to think it would be simplest to build them all with the captured nuts, and people could drill them out a bit if they'd rather use regular nuts instead.
