did the rear drive shaft change at all when the transmission changed in '95?

No, assuming it's abs. Earlier non-abs are different(longer)

but having a hard time trying to wrap my head around how brakes could effect ds length???

It's more drum vs disc. 91/92 had a longer shaft since the tcase/tranny is different. Most 93/94 had disc rears but a few were non-abs/drums. These show a different part #, but I have never gotten a 1fz with drum brakes so I am unsure if they are the same or different lengths.
