Posting more than I know
I'm finishing the rebuild of my rear diff. I have patterned the gears, and believe I have an acceptable pattern, but would like to see if it really warrants messing with pulling the pinion bearing and trying multiple other shims +/- to see if the pattern improves.
As background, this is a full frame off that I'm 3 (slow, yes) years into, taking my time.
I don't mind getting a pinion shim kit, but don't currently have one. Pattern with original shim seems to be good:
- Drive: Centered both horizontally and vertically. Covers about 70% of the tooth.
- Coast: Centered vertically, but towards the inside of the tooth (toe side). Covers about 50% of the tooth.
Love any feedback. First Diff.
New Koyo bearings (CruiserOutfitters kit). Backlash is 0.009". Have not yet set the crush collar on the pinion.
