I ear noise in my rear diff.

When turning to the right (only when turning right and not always...), I ear a toc-toc-toc comming from the diff. The noise disappaer when I go in straight line after.

I don't have locker.

Any idea ?

PS : by now I don't know if is the oil level (can't open the fill plug)... is that can be the oil level ?

See post in '60 series section. Check oil level!

if you running a " dry " axle, off course you can damage interal parts .. I thought is a good idea always check your oil level and search in metalic particles.

the drain plug is magnetic take a look at it and see how much metal it had caught.

How many K's on your rig?

a dry diff will exhibit some warnings such as diff fluid either in the form of a puddle from a broken axle housing or a loose drain plug or a nice spray all over the undercariage form a leaking pinon seal...

Don't forget the spray on the inside of the tire from the axle seal!! Can be a combination as well. Leaking pinion also shows up as oil spots on the back of the rig (at least on my '60)

Finally pull out the fill plug.

Very very dark fluide.

Next step, change the oil tomorow with gooood syn. oil and try the Cruiser.

Any tip for cleaning inside the diff without remove the cover ?

it shouldn't be anything too serious unless she has seen some abuse or that is stock oil. What does the back lash feel like when you turn the driveshaft by hand?

If the fluid looks bad don't refill with synthetic yet. Put in cheap fluid, let is circulate for a week or more while driving and then dump. Repeat until you're satisfied with how clean it is then use your synthetic.
