I'm running down issues on why my rear wont engage. It used ro. I put a new sensor and plug on it. Original issue was i broke the plug. However still not working. I checked the voltage and its good and jacked it up and spun tires per fsm. Now my question is can I safely remove just the actuator cover and see inside or will I run into issues? Because I can feel the motor when its trying to engage

I urgently need a rear dif. Anyone 5 hrs from erie pa?? I had a trip this wknd coming up ive been prepping for for wks. Did a front end rebuild got front lockers working and now this bull****. I need someone to save my day and trip

Your user name. Lol.

You don’t need a new diff, just need to replace/repair the locker actuator. Rock Auto used to sell the actuators. If you don’t get it swapped in time for your trip just put that back together and go. You just will not have the rear locker working with the switch.

The cover is in 4 pieces...

Yeah, I saw. I meant with a home brew block off plate etc to get you by and on the road for your trip if you didn’t get an actuator in time.

Luckily I found a guy on the fb group that is sending me a temperamental one for 100 and fedexed for 140 and will b here Wed hopefully so I should be ok. Worst case, I will take old one off and use that block plate trick. 1st time replacing an actuator I really hope its not a pta. I've had so many issues this month prepping it.

Your right i just looked on line and Rock auto still has the OEM Aisin listed for sale for $503 bucks.

EDIT:

Your front locker CAN lock EVEN IF the rear IS NOT locked. I incorrectly stated if the front would not lock if the rear wasn't locked.

CDL
REAR LOCK
FRONT LOCK

Your front locker won't lock either because it must see the rear locked before it's allowed to lock, unless you get it fixed.

CDL
REAR LOCK
FRONT LOCK
This Is an incorrect statement. The CDL must be confirmed as locked to get either front or rear locked. Front can lock without the rear being confirmed. The big constraint is the dash switch having only three positions off, rear only and front+rear.

Thank you! I learned something new today.

I will correct my post.

Best way to get top 2 bolts off actuator? They are getting heavily rounded off. And I cant get a ratchet on them and a 10mm is barely catching atm. I'm debating chiseling them off and pounding threads out and then rethreading w new bolts. Doable or other options?

Ok so I need advice. 1 how tf is the best way to get these off or out. Rear dif actuator top bolts. I assume po dicked w it as bottom 2 came out no issue and these 2 were already rounded. I've been at it for 3 days now. Pb blaster and heating. I dont have a welder. Angle to grind drill and tap is iffy. Any options??? I dont think its safe to drive it the way its torn apart.

oxy fuel torch, induction heater or air hammer w/chisel bit should work. Rounded bolt extractor just might work too.
