Was swapping out tires and wheels yesterday and upon pulling the left rear brake drum it appears that I needs a a new bearing kit or at least a seal.

The entire brake assembly is soaked with rearend dope.

I had noticed some seapage on the backside of the brake assembly plate while I was putting on new shocks but assumed it was a brake wheel cyl. needed.

Anyway, SOR has a kit for $101.
SOR KIT

My question is, are there any gotchas to doing this?
From looking at the parts in the kit, it looks pretty straight forward but are there any special tools needed or does anyone know of a better deal on a kit?

thanks in advance.

If it's leaking, its the seal, but it's worth changing out both the seals and bearings while you're in there. The bulk of the work is opening up the diff to remove the c-clips so the axles can be pulled out.

If you do the bearings, you'll need a bearing puller. There are two bearing styles that changed in '73, yours should be the older two piece style (separate race and bearing).

I just did mine two weeks ago. Good luck!

Stupid question: Do the brakes need to come off? I do plan on taking the shoes and springs off to clean it up but as far as the wheel cyls and backing plate...?

I initially thought the kit was only one side but it looks like both. Which if it is both makes me feel a whole better about the price.

buy it from Kurt, cheaper and a nicer vendor
