A few things to consider.

I recently did a fuel filter change.

Yesterday I removed a few vacuum hoses and removed a few other items to get to timing belt cover to inspect the timing belt.

Today as I was driving about 10 miles away from home I accidently hit the shifter from 4th to 2nd. I was going about 20-30 mph

My wife smelled something like burning. We both thought it was the sudden shift in trans.

During our trip up the mountain I had the A/C on.

I made it up to Running Springs.

Checked the engine bay and I could here a sound coming from this box. Excuse me for not know what it is.

And sound(gurgling) is coming from this specific hose.

Could this be due to the elevation?

I'm with my wife and kids. I don't want to put them in any danger. Of course all my senses are heightened.

Thanks

Think that's your EVAP charcoal canister-

I have read threads in the 80s tech section about the charcoal canister and elevation.

Probably just vacuum going thru an internal valve causing vibration. Just for the heck of it, try opening the gas cap to see if that has any effect. Either way, I doubt if it's anything serious.

Ah. Yes. I've read that as well.

As long as this does not affect my braking going down the mountain or have any other adverse effects I think I'll be good.

Braking is not related to engine vacuum, it has electric booster pump. If smell gone don't worry. Down shifting 4th to 2nd is not a concern, other than you felt engine braking effect. Drive and enjoy!

Yeah just checked engine bay again. All seems good. No funky gurgling sound. Opened up gas tank. All good.

Like I was saying. I had a/c going and it just seemed warm in the truck with that engine smell.

Maybe I'm over reacting.

Thanks fellas.
