I've got 2 hours to swap the snow tires from the 93 to the 97 and realized I don't know the torque setting for the lugnuts on the 97. I recall it's different since the 97 uses the newer style flat washer lugnuts.

So, it's 8:10 Pacific time - what's the correct torque settting?

Thanks!

76 lb ft for the 95-97 wheels, but I usually used 80 as a nice round number that's easy to remember.

BTW, on your 93 wheels with the steel inserts, are you using the prescribed 105 lb ft?

HTH,

As I recall from eailer posts: 75 ft-lbs (dry)

I use that I my '97 with no problems on and off-road.

76 is right for a 97 with alloys

oh: buy the FSM, Newb! :D

It's also in the back pages of the owners manual in the glove box. It lists both alloy and steel wheels.

Fully depressed impact wrench trigger on setting "4."

Sometimes I really cannot get over you guys. :D :flipoff2:

Thanks - made the deadline. I quickly got on and got the figure, then back to the garage.

Yep, I'm using 100 on the steel wheels.

She's off, all fluids checked and changed, ice tires on, blah, blah.

Thanks!!

Guilty as charged. My "excuse" is that I was flat out of time and simply posted, ran to the garage to swap wheels, then ran back up the office to get the number knowing the crew here would help me out. I gotta tell ya, loosening 48 lugnuts, jacking 8 corners, swapping 8 tires and tightening 48 lugnuts takes a bit of time. I'm no Penske pit crew for sure!

Doug, if you had 2 jacks, you should have been done in no time. Even without air. Shees, I'm deducting 2 of any previous kudos I've given you :flipoff2:

BTW, can you update your sig to indicate which starter your 97 has? :D

OT, but has to do with lug nuts

OK I just had to change my wifes friends tire on her toyota Scion xB, she had gotten the upgraded TRD wheels and low profile tires put on it when she bough it. Well I go to change it and find the lug nut wrench is ~19mm but the lug nuts are 17mm, fortunately I have my 4 way metric lug wrench, so I use that, but it will NOT budge! I strain for all it's worth and felt a twinge in my neck. ARRRGH!! Then I get a 2 foot long breaker bar and throw ALL my weight into it and am barely able to get it to move, on all 4 lugs. I finally got the tire changed, torqued to the appropriate 76 ft-lb and went inside the house. About three minutes later I am stuck on the couch with a very painful pinched nerve in my neck, took some vicodin and ended up calling in sick for work tomorrow as there is no way in hell I am going to jump up for a call in the middle of the night with out doubling over in pain, much less lifting fat ass patients all day!!! When Les Schwab put the tires on they must have torqued them to 200 ft-lbs, damn I'm pissed at them.

Well, it sucks you pulled a muscle. There is a easier way, and that is to use the breaker bar and just step down on it with your foot. I've done the same with the 4 ways, but they are bit more awkard than a breaker bar or a single ended tire wrench.

I resembled that comment

I was praising God while they were blocking my cruiser that I grew up in a country where you guys come out to help complete strangers.

Sorry about your shoulder.

Do you guys also discourage using a rattle gun to loosen lugs?
