Well just found out why my engine has been so gutless. A dang mouse had packed some pine nuts wood shaving etc, etc. Oh and of course droppings in my air cleaner, cleaned all of it out and hoped for the best but I think some of whatever got sucked into the carb. Suggestions?? Was planning on driving to Surf-n-turf called a shop and they would charge $360.00 to rebuild. Ran fine before the mouse. Can't rebuild at this time because I won't have the $$$ for both the rebuild and the trip to Pismo. thanks

Clean it out. If something got into the bowl from the vent tubes, take off the top cover and blow it out. If necessary, remove the slow jets (aka air correction jets) and blow out the junk. If the top cover gasket comes off in one piece, it should be an easy job. Keep your finger over the accelerator pump check valve to prevent blowing out the tiny parts.

Will this require carb removal? never really tore into a carb before but am pretty desperate.

Yes, pull the carb. You don't want the stuff you blow out to go into the intake.

No. you can pull the top off the carb with it on the vehicle.

Figured that....never rebuilt a carb before and I'm a 2 banana. Don't want to screw it up. How hard/complex a job is this? I called and a rebuild kit is about 35.00 10x that for the labor which makes me think it is pretty involved.......

Not that hard. I figure 2 bananas should cover it. A manual helps.
There are degrees to a carb rebuild....I think you just need to take off the top and clean it out. You could take it most of the way apart and soak it overnight, but probably just spray some carb cleaner thru the little passages, blow-dry and reassemble is all you need. Buy 2 carb kits at a time.

Just take the top cover off. It is not a big deal as long as you are careful. The things to watch for are the pin that retains the float and the accelerator pump pin. Don't tilt the cover so it will slide out. Cover the accelerator pump pin so you don't blow it out of its hole.
