Over the holidays, my 99 reached 300K miles. I bought the truck in 2017, 2-owner Texas truck with tons of maintenance records. This forum has been a HUGE help during this journey for our family Cruiser that continues to show why it is just in another category of vehicles.
It started back in 2017 when I wanted a Tundra to take family road trips down to Mexico...well, no Tundra but I found a higher mileage (or so I thought, 99 with 243K with a folder full of maintenance records for my budget ($7.5K) Since, I've spent many thousands of dollars baselining in including Front differential, Brake Booster, U-Joints, shocks, brakes, PS pump/hose, alternator, motor/transmission mounts...previous owner did Radiator, Valve Cover gasket and a lot of other things lol. I've had many of the problems discussed on the this board for a vehicle with this mileage. I didn't want to lift my truck as it cruises the highway 99% of the time...but I added a few things to make it unique.
Notes after 300K miles
* Use OEM parts...more expensive, absolutely, but i learned the hard way with PS hose lol
* Expensive to baseline, especially when doing it at a shop. An expensive vehicle period...but its paid off and well worth it. Finding a good LC shop has been worth it for me...not cheap, but well worth it
* I have driven this vehicle 15+ times to Mexico from DFW....1500 miles round trip. I have loaded up the back seat with hundreds of lbs of luggage, etc...truck purrs down the road
* I have a 99...so 4 speed. It likes to cruise at 65-75mph. I consistently get 13-15mpg
* I use premium fuel....not needed, but neither is a 99 vehicle with 300K miles.
* Why get an "extra vehicle"? Well, I use mine and get great use out of it. I always say, some people have motorcylces, 4-wheelers, snow mobiles, boats....I have a a Land Cruiser. An expensive toy...that keeps me and my family safe on our drives.
* Truck is SOLID...difficult to explain, just feels different, hit a bump, close a door, put a rear seat down, grab the shifter...no vehicle compares in my book
Thank you for the smiles while I drive you down the road in comfort and for keeping my family safe. I'll keep taking care of you and please keep doing the same for me.
