Thanks in advance for help - My daily driven 2005 LC has about 280K miles. The timing belt was replaced at 200K and alternator and steering rack also done recently. The radiator has a substantial leak. Power steering reservoir seems to also have a leak.

I plan to have a local LC specialist tear into it this summer to do the timing belt service, replace the radiator and hoses, and anything else that makes any sense to do proactively while the engine bay is half empty. Parts are relatively cheap if I can prevent duplicate labor and downtime.

Would really appreciate input (pinging @2001LC but advice welcome from all).

Here's my tentative list but please let me know if there's anything else that makes sense to add:
  • Timing belt
  • Water pump
  • Radiator
  • Hoses
  • Fan bracket
  • Serpentine belt
  • Idler pulley
  • Tensioner pulley
  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Starter?
  • Power steering lines/reservoir/pump?
Many thanks,
Marc

Here's my tentative list but please let me know if there's anything else that makes sense to add:
  • Timing belt
  • Water pump
If time or see or hear a reason to. Then: Plus pulleys and tensioner. Very often fan bracket and ser belt tensioner.
If needed, for sure. Add to that both hoses, thermostat, cap and heater tees and coolant flush (Toy SLL (pink, 4 gal)
If damaged, not holding vacuum or water, cracks or swollen. Most vacuum hoses do need replacing, most water do not.
  • Fan bracket
If does pass inspection
  • Serpentine belt
If aged or worn.
  • Idler pulley
  • Tensioner pulley
If bad
  • Valve cover gaskets
Retorque bolts to 54INC-lbf.
If bad or have intake man off
  • Power steering lines/reservoir/pump?
Start be cleaning or replacing reservoir, and any leaking hoses. Flush with Mobil 1 ATF.
Many thanks,
Marc

Sounds like if the radiator has a substantial leak, it's def. needed, lol. I'd add heater t's and if you're doing more than tightening the valve cover bolts and actually replacing the gaskets, then yes, def. starter as a "while you're in there". Also t-stat.

You won't save any labor that I can think of by doing the starter. If you do the starter, plan on replacing the knock sensor plugs, as they will be very brittle. You'll also need new intake manifold gaskets. I'd personally wait for it to give you signs it needs to be replaced.

If your radiator has a big leak, I wouldn't wait to replace it. Its really about an hour long job, and can save you from killing your engine.
