So, company sent me front pads that were misaligned with backing plates, holes don’t line up. They sent replacements, and I now have spares. Have peeled the plates off—but what kind of glue should I use to reattach the plates to the pads?

Are you trying to DIE!!!???

Devcon 2ton epoxy attached to the trash. I might try to put a Fram oil filter on my truck before I would mess with screwed up brake pads.

Do you mean the breaking material (pad) from the steel plate, or the anti-vibration shim on the side opposite the brake pad?
Pics?

Because one of these is "Throw Them Out" and one is " it doesn't matter".

Seen a GM pad separate from the backing plate on a vehicle, owner complained about a grinding noise.

I'd probably return all the pads and just buy OEM Toyota ones. Those will always fit

If you choose to run the pads, just forget about re-attaching the shim and slather the heck out of the back of the plate with anti-squeal goop. The shims are there to cut down on noise (although they sometimes serve the opposite purpose), but they're not necessary for the pad to work properly.

Perhaps my terminology was unfortunate... Red arrows point to what I am talking about. The squealer (green arrow) is not attached to this piece of metal.

Are they detached or still firmly attached, but mis-aligned? Could just drill out the shim so that your pin fits through properly. Again, that shim isn't necessary for the operation of the pad, just there to reduce noise (as apposed to the gizmo you aptly described as the "squealer" :) )

Define “firmly.” :) One set still attached, one peeled off with fingers, which makes me think superfirm attachment is not critical.

Drilling out holes won’t leave much metal at some of the corners, might leave none at all (does that matter?)—so thought I’d ask about regluing in proper position.

Then I would rip them off completely and leave it that way. There isn't any adhesive I know of that will survive the temperatures those will endure. My uneducated hillbilly opinion :hillbilly:

Thanks. Or...maybe something NASA uses...
:meh:
