Rat's nest of wires...

While drying out the carpets I pulled out the side kick panel on the DS and found this rat's nest - someone was obviously trying to do something there.... Looks like a diode was placed between the two wires: Blue/Yellow and Blue/Orange - real amateurish stuff. Can someone give some clues about what this diode may be for?! I have the Electical diagrams manual - can someone please help me narrow down the area I should be looking at in the manual!?

that diode is bridging your doors locks - for the elimination of driver's door unlock priority. Just loose them and tape up-make sure your master switch still opens all doors- someone either wanted the fact remotes to open all doors on single pulse or had an aftmkt keyless system in there-
FWIW - that is not a rats nest

Definitely not a rats nest, but its certainly a hack-job :D

Definitely a hack. Need to have a new master key made at Toyota later this week so I can properly operate the door locks. Then I'll probably take all this out and seal it all with liquid electrical tape.

Your thinking is in reverse- put the mod back to stock-this is causing your misbehaviorYou never explained what your locks are doing- key in cylinder - behaves diff than master lock button- don't think so hard- two butt connectors and electical tape is all u need - liquid stuff sucks and is a mess- i do this ALL day long- and throughout the night sometimes- you do not want me to post pictures of a hack

Skin - I don't believe I'm having any electrical problems with my door locks - that's not why I'm digging in there. I found this mod accidentally and would like to remove/fix this - I just wanna make sure that the removal of this mod it's not going to affect operation of my door in a negative way...

Currently, I can Open/Close all doors with the master door lock switch on the driver's door - this is all working just fine. I do have a problem with the door key - it's worn so I can only Open the doors from outside, but I can't close it (because the key doesn't turn that way). It's a mechanical problem - don't think it has anything to do with the mod I found but I want to make sure that the key operation for the door won't be affected either and right now I couldn't test that part until I get a new key.

What should I look out for when I remove that diode and seal the wires with electrical tape?

Pull the diode- if your master switch still works everything- just tape em up - For your other prob does the key work both ways in your pass door cylinder and tailgate?? . Don't know why you would want to LOCK w/ the key at any rate

Thx man. Yes, the other side is similar. I will NOT close - ever and from time to time I have problems opening the PS lock with the key - you got to really work it to get it opened. Pain - hopefully a new key will do better.

P.S.
Please post a pic of some of the rat's nests on your side (if you have some)... :)

Heat Shrink Connectors

FWIW, I use heat shrink connectors (see picture), they don't leave a stick messy residue like electrical tape and you shrink them down after you crimp them. Nice clean fix and it keeps them from corroding pretty well. Most auto parts stores have them

If you have an aftermarket alarm/keyless, the diodes are required for the lock/unlock signal and the door trigger signal (at least on my 96). There is no driver door unlock priority for the alarm, in the kick panel, that I was aware of. I have a little bit of info about the diodes required for lock/unlock and door trigger in the "HOW TO:" in my sig. If you remove them, just be prepared that you might need to put them back for things to work.
