"Rare Factory 5 speed" question

It's likely the H55f.
Yes toyota makes 5 speeds, but they were not factory for U.S. cruisers. Pretty much the rest of the world got 5 speeds + diesels

Negative. U.S. got the four speed (H42). The five speed trans (H55) was standard in luckier markets like Australia. It's a relatively common (and awesome) upgrade for U.S. trucks.

That price is ridiculous, just so you know. You could buy a rust free cruiser in the southwest, with less miles, fly out, drive it all the way home, and buy an H55 for it, for less than the $10k that seller wants.

It's a 'factory' 5 speed alright in that the truck and the transmission both came from Toyota, but the transmission was installed later. Assuming it's done right it does makes the truck more desirable.
I don't think any US cruisers were sold with the H55f, but if it's available at toyota dealerships, the original purchaser may have bought one and had it installed at the dealership when the truck was new. Viola, rare factory (well, actually dealer-installed) 5-speed!

The price is a little high but I don't think it's nuts. ..15,000 would be nuts.
Figure a very nice rust/collision free good running FJ60 at $5000.00~$6000.00
Add a 5-speed, $2000.00 plus clutch, rear main seal, gear oil ,etc. 200.00~250.00
If it's me, while the T-case is apart, add the 250.00 bearing and seal kit
on re-assembly
Labor for above.. 500~1000, depending on where you go.
That's a range of 7800.00 to 9500.00.
In two weeks he'll drop the price to 9250.00
In three it will be 8900.00.
So he's right on the money

Just since 2009 , i see many corners with weekend car lots setup . Lots of spare metal out there.

Price is high: driver's seat is worn, as usual, cracked dash, but if you can get it down a bit, and otherwise condition is as advertised, and there isn't a hidden slab of bondo, and all engine parts are there and unmolested, and no hidden rust on roof line, go for it. But just reading the advert, seems like he's asking a premium just for a 5 spd installed. But lcwiz is right, that's a lot of cash if you had to pay someone to do it.

Looks ok to me if a bit expensive.
That is a new install on that 5 speed-at least the shift knob is the later model and not the 5 speed shift knob of 1986.
Find out the story, but not a bad looking Cruiser and the 5 speed is a very nice upgrade.

That's a bit of a stretch. Any US dealer could order you one. But I doubt your going to a dealer who is going to have this in there stock like a wiper blade.
Most markets that got the H55F had 4:10s instead of 3:70s? If your concerned about gas mileage any Land Cruiser is a poor choice. If I went to the expense of putting in a H55F I would switch to 4:10s to take full advantage of the granny first gear. but that's just me
