I use 12T jack stands  though I didn't measure them for height. I found that if you don't disconnect the lateral rod, you still have to have someone stand on the hub to push the axle down just a bit to get the spings out.

That's what I was thinking too. They range from 24-30 inches at max height depending on brand. I couldn't find any 3, 4, 5 or 6 ton that went that high.

I've used 24". Or rather 22", with a 2x2 block on top, across the bolts fastening the trailer hook supports to the frame. Thats just high enough to lift the 31" wheels off the floor, and also enough to get the axle down.

I think I did mine with the rear tires off... so less jackstand height needed.

I couldn't find the stands I wanted so I used my 3 ton placed in front of the control arms. The height at the frame in the rear was around 24" and still not quite high enough with the jack all the way down but still under the diff. I had to jack up my PS a bit to get the spring back in.

Ok... So I have had my FSM for about a week now and I am still getting used to it. I was looking for some part numbers and cant locate them to save my life. Do these things list the part numbers? Where do I look to find part numbers? Sorry if I am just being a dumb *** here.... thanks!

No part numbers in the FSM, you can find them online on various websites, like www.toyodiy.com

So I drove my buddies land rover disco II while hunting this weekend. What exactly is my punishment for this and how can I ever make my 100 let me drive it again? :frown:

Stupid question, but does turning overdrive off while going up hills (highway driving-no trailer) all the time hurt anything?? Usually jumps about 1000rpm when o/d off and ascending.
I live in the hills, seems like the hundy doesn't like 285's and hills... Whatcha think?

I used my over drive going up hills, as well as use it fir engine braking to hold a speed on a long hill. Doesn't give a lot of engine braking but enough to hold a speed and not ride the brakes.

I'd say go for it.

Turning overdrive off while going up hills won't hurt anything. The reason people tell people not to drive in lower gears (typically while towing) is because the lower gears don't lock. In third (O/D off) and fourth gears, the transmission will automatically lock, so unless you are worried about the extra gas it'll take to drive in third gear, there's nothing wrong. In fact, it can be debated that driving it like that is better than lugging it along in overdrive.

That is what I thought, just wanted to make sure, thanks.

How much are you guys paying to get the wheels powdercoated?? Thinking about painting the wheels black to match the bumpers (when the front gets here).

depends on the area, new york area ~100 each, which includes blasting and fixing any gouges in the face of the rim.

Fawk!!!!! I was painting something in my basement/garage and got some overspray (white) on my Hundy's side rear window and quarter panel. There are some spots on the black molding, but the window is what I am worried about. Anyone got a good rememdy to get it off??

razor blade to scrape it off, possibly tape the entire window off and use a light duty paint thinner or stripper

Going camping this weekend, we'll have to mess with it when I get back. I just noticed it at the gas pumps... pissed

I wonder too... not for my wheels, the flat black hi temp paint has held up fine, but I can't say the same for the front grill - it's all chipped to hell.

By the way, can you powdercoat plastic, because that is what the grill is?
