I have noticed several different setups for Ram mounts for phone and tablet use on Tacomas and other trucks. I wanted to see what exact parts are needed for a Ram setup you like or maybe even another brand you like with a 100 series? I would like to be able to use it for a smartphone or tablet possibley on my no nav 00 LC . I have seen one in a Tacoma where they use the grab bar handle on the A pillar, anyone try that setup? I use RAM mounts with suction cups for our phones in bother the 80 and 100. In the 80 I use an Anker seat mount tablet holder it does alright but am going to upgrade to the RAM version I am really impressed with their products and customer service. I had the rubber start coming off the suction cup ball and they replaced it no questions asked.

I’m more of the “field of View” school so I made my mount to have the screen in the best possible angle

Here are the components, it works great on the 8 inch, zero movement, one hand adjustment with a great range of mothion..

But now I’m in love with a galaxy tap pro that happened to be 12.2” and the arm (the base connection to the tranny bulkhead) is to flimsy and I can not stand the vibration so I’m working on a new concept..

Here is my current setup; RAM Pod Universal Rod w/Socket arm with a Ram Mount X-Grip to hold my iPhone. No drilling required as it bolts to the existing seat rails. You can also put it on the passenger side and bend it over the console if you choose to do so. All together <$60 and I love it, it puts my phone in the perfect place for me while driving.

I don't have a 100, but I've got a bunch of others, and this setup has worked perfectly for me in every application. I bought an iPad mini that I dedicate just to Cruiser/navigation use, and this mount is rock solid, completely simple, instantly removable, doesn't obstruct leg room or shift levers (a big deal in the 70), etc. etc.

I'm piecing the parts together to install a Kenwood TM-D710GA off a ram mount ball from the grab handle.

If you go this route, just make sure to get a long enough socket cap screw.

I tried a 60mm one yesterday and it was still too short IMO and the ball sits too close to the grab handle.

Here's the thread on TacomaWorld for reference - A-Pillar RAM mount GPS/Phone holder.

The hundy's use the same screw size - M6-1.0 x 60+mm. I got mine off of Fastenal.com.

How close does the Kenwood sit to the steering wheel? I copied the tacoma world build and got the 3 inch socket arm, but my phone sits too close to the steering wheel where my hands would hit it while driving. To set it far enough behind the wheel, I'll probably need to get a 6 inch socket arm and a double bar adapter. Or...I could move it to the top of the grab handle but then it would limit the use of the sun visors.

I've had my Ram Mount suction cup for a few months now with no issues. Lots of washboard roads and it hasn't fallen off with my Iphone 6 in it. Still looking for a tablet mount.

Going to have to be committed to Ram Mounts to screw into the dash! A few questions: How stable is the track when it is fastened to the dash? How long have you had it connected to the dash? Any issues that you have noticed from installing it like that? Would you choose to do this method again if you hadn't already?

I’ve had it on here almost a year. It is the most stable solution I have found that puts everything in sight and reach without obstructing views. The track allows abilty to mount up to 5 items. I mount my tablet in the center when I need the Delorme. Yes I would do it again. I felt crazy at first but after drilling the 5” hole for my snorkel I figured a few 1/8” holes wouldn’t matter. They’re are so small they’re barely noticeable and can easily be filled. I pulled the radio out before drilling, and used 1/8” bolts with T nuts to secure. If I do it again I’ll mount it about 1” closer to the edge so the joints clear the edge. That and allow the plasticote more dry time.

It took me a while to get my ham radio RAM mount 3D printed. Then, once I had all the pieces, the screws kept breaking up when I tried to attach the RAM mount to the control unit. So I haven't made much progress. Anyway, this is the piece I am going to use to put it back a ways (RAM B Size 1" Ball on 2.5" Round Plates with AMPs hole pattern). Its the longest one I could find. If that doesn't work, I'll use a window suction cup mount. My HT ham is on one right now for a few months and its still in place!

Nice. It makes quite a lot of sense as I am thinking about it more. Ha ha I am not surprised that the 1/8th inch holes were easier after installing the snorkel! I have often thought that I overly complicate solutions and that I should simplify. This is definitely the simplest solution to finding multiple mounting points that are all within reach. What did you PlastiKote? Could you offer any numbers for how far back from the edge of the dash you installed the track?
