Ram Jet code reader (1 Viewer)

I have a Ram Jet engine in my 1985 FJ-60 . The code reader is a module than flashes lights to determine the fault code.

I was told the interface was an ODB-1 but that cable does not fit the connection. When I do a search the only other option is a $500.00 code reader. I'm sure there must be something else.

If you blink with the flashing light reader, you miss the flash count. I plan on doing some further research tomorrow but thought someone else has already tacked this issue.

If I recall correctly, a Mud member by the name of RMP&O had a very nice Ram Jet-swapped FJ60 for a while. I think he sold it but you might PM him and see what he knows.

If it's a late 80s GM, you typically short two connectors and count the flashes. Can you post a picture of your diagnostic port? That would help us figure out if it's an oddball thing or standard-issue GM stuff. What year is the engine and control system?

would not ram jet be OBD ii ? Does it not have the full spectrum of sensors? Code readers are $300 and less approx. Flashing light game was the old school thing OBD 1 like on TBI engines....not hard to do, you count the flashes after it goes through the self check. I don't know for sure but it would seem to me that a ram jet is not OBD1... why not check the source...there were various web sites that had GM had that noted info on the ramjet.... not sure if those are still around.

Why not drop by auto zone or somewhere and get them to read the codes...then you'll know if the obd2 code reader works. I think the RAM jet setups had their own specific non production GM PCM-ECM. I would guess there is some documentation around on the ramjets ....

ok...I was wrong in my assumption on the ramject.

I recall looking at some of the ramjet literature some time ago.... may be unicorn status to some degree. If true OBD1, and you can check codes by watching the light flash...thats not too bad to figure out. I had a 92 GM pickup with TBI that was OBD1, when you checked the codes on it, you would use a paper clip to plug into the ALDL connecter, the light would flash the status code first then it would flash any trouble codes...via a series of long and short flashes of the light.

yes that is true . But the code flashing is not very accurate. One code can mean more than one fault.

The ALDL should be the same as a TPI ALDL of the same era late 80's -early 90's. I have an Actron Scantool code reader that works on all my Chevy OBD 1 cars (2 of them).

Nice The connector on the Ram Jet is a MEFI connector.
