Now go figure this one out:

Along with all the goober and just plain stupid things the PO did to my build, in a bag of small parts and worthless cheap tools, I found an adapter nut that was 10m on the male end and 9m on the female? Who in the hell would want to adapt DOWN?!
Couldn't you have that adaptor reversed engineered where you have the 9mm male and a 10mm female to adapt up. However this wouldn't work for the purest

Off hand I'd guess someone with an older FJ40 with the stock 9mm fittings might want to change out bad lines with new larger lines using 10mm fittings and 10mm/9mm fittings so they could use the good/working/ existing wheel cylinders - all 6 of them since it would be kind of expensive to change all of them out at once. Or he/she was in the process of changing over to disc's front and rear - when he/she could afford it but needed to keep the FJ40 Oldie running with clean brake lines or change out the wheel cyl to newer available ones that have 10mm fittings . Not an unacceptable way of doing things. It would seem kind of strange for the mfg - Toyota- to design a brake system that was not strong enough for the FJ40 of the day - sure a lot of them running around the world and I have never heard of a problem with exploding 9mm brake fittings. I understand you not wanting to mess with the 9mm size since that particular part of the market is small and fading - I wouldn't want to mess with that either. Later on when you have a settled process you might make a "line conversion kit" consisting of the larger lines with 10mm fittings for the owners converting to 10mm fittings, disc's, wheel cylinders etc.

If the truck was an older truck that might explain it but it's a '77 and he roughed in some awkward line repairs. I can't figure out why he would have a fitting adapter, much less one that's backwards.

As far as the 9 up to 10 adapter goes, I think that may actually be a little stronger since the weak point is the 9mm nut pushing on the flair is where it would tend to crack. Without the flare being under it the nut may last longer. Granted that the nut over tightened is susceptible anyway. Tightening the 10mm nut into the adapter nut would take two wrenches. One to tighten the 10mm and one to keep the 9mm from over tightening.

I haven't bought much from Cruiser Corps but those orders went well. I've also heard of good things from others posting about them but I just got an email that this thread can't ignore. I know they don't make these and I'm guessing I know who does since there are signature design mess ups in them but I can't ignore it. I was planning to wait until I had all of the first set completed in the NiCopp line but here's a shot of all but two lines in my master material of Poly coated steel. Also the image on line for the kit from "Cruiser Corps" I don't blame them for this bad a set. Look at the firewall lines. It's not even recognizable other than the coil expansion.

Am I wrong to think images like these are what will keep me in business?

Well maybe he just bought the wrong one, or it came in a kit somewhere, or maybe some good soul was just trying to help - get rid of that nasty thing so it doesn't sneak out and breed with the good ones - who knows what that might bring about!

Really? No way, I'm keeping it like a trophy. A liiiiitle tiny trophy.

I think the bottom picture brake lines are for a Heep. That's the only explanation.

Nope. FJ40. And I quote, "FJ40 Brake Lines - 9/1975 - 7/1980"

Okay guys. I'm still waiting on the approval letter for my LLC biz but finished with completing the first set of master lines. Minor tweaks but all lines are fabbed. Now on to making the adjustments for my build and the CCOT master cylinder.

VIQ. Very Important Question for you:
Now that I've seen what bending up lines does to the lines from Classic Tube. Now that I have the master lines for the firewall and the long chassis line. I'm beginning to realize that shipping the lines without bending them will cost quite a bit in shipping and box fabrication to protect the lines during shipping. The question is this: How opposed would you be if I were to use unions in a few of the lines where they wouldn't be visible after assembly? For instance, the long chassis line is over four feet long. One union along the chassis wouldn't be seen. A union on both firewall lines under the brake booster wouldn't be seen either. Making the lines take up less room without bending them would be cheaper to ship. I do not plan on padding the shipping costs but would like to help keep them down for you. I will have a handling cost but that will only cover the packing and invoicing time. Not much.

I'm pretty dad gum sure that the steel lines won't look any good after being bent just to ship them so I don't want to offer "extra bent" lines in steel. The NiCopp lines may be forgiving enough to bend but I won't like it.

PLEASE comment on the question. I want to know what everyone wants before I crank this up. Thanks.

Just so you'll know, there's an e in my name.

Yes, the axle lines are shippable as is. The only issues are the two firewall lines really. They take up a lot of space.

When would you like your lines, @fj401978?

Rainman, I just installed my firewall brake lines for a Feb 77 FJ40. And on of the lines is jacked and I simply made the best of it. Can you send me a PM on the two firewall lines? I am doing fairly extensive restoration and everytime I lift the hood and see bent lines will just piss me off. Thank you Mark

Mark,

I feel your pain. I don't like seeing bent up lines when there's no reason to. PM sent.

Okay everyone. Finally. The price list. For real.

10-4...sorry about the 'e', duly noted! ok, I could buy them now, or when ever is best for you, no real hurry as I have it down for other reasons at this time. I see the rear as RAL-9/75-8/80 with the ST/SN option for 23.03. What changes on the front axle after 9/77? I have a 12/77 ('78 model). So I don't know about ordering that line? You may have a typo on the price of the ST/SN option on the FAL-9/75-8/77...$15.70? A good bit lower than the other options. Let me know about the front axle and the total with shipping and I can send ya a PP.

Thanks Rainey,

Thanks for that catch. I've worked on those numbers so much there was bound to be a mess-up. Corrected now. Thank you!

If you send me a picture of both ends where the nuts attach, I'll see what the difference is... If there is any. This is why I need access to other year trucks. I've gotten mixed infer from the web about what changed in 9/77.. It's very possible that the only changes were in the F2R and F2F, and possibly the MPV line. This would be GREAT news if it's true. I think it's quite possible I have what you need and could get those done pretty quickly.

Email me the shots and I'll get back with you.
