On my wifes 03 Cruiser I replaced the water pump and timing belt after the water pump gave out following this thread. Successful 90k Service with Videos

Miles - 186000

Everything worked great, its been about 1500 miles and yesterday my wife heard a loud ping and had no steering. I was able to drive it home, 2 blocks, with no power steering.

Serpentine belt broke which was brand new. In digging, I noticed the radiator fan spins at the clutch, but on the part the serpentine belt spins, that has seized.

Anything special to fix this? Anyone else have this issue? Advice would be appreciated so I can get this going asap.

Thanks

Search on here for “fan bracket”. You might consider the idler and tensioner pulleys while you’re in there.

You guys are the best! I appreciate this. Ill get online and order an OEM one and swap it out!

I never considered just replacing the bearing. Have you a source(s) for the bearing?

^^^^^ I believe I gave you some errant information (replace bearing), I don't think the bearing in the fan bracket is serviceable. Sorry for that. In the back of my mind I was thinking about pulley bearings for a timing belt replacement.

So....just replace the bracket if that is your issue.

Darn!

Sorry to do this again, I'm not picking on you REALLY. But the only bearing I know we can swap out is the drive belt tensioner bearing! All others we need complete assemble (i.e pulley)

So my tb was recently changed. Immediately began eating serpentine belts (within 100 miles for 2 new belts). 1) always could just have been a bad belt so we just replaced the 1st one. The 2nd new belt actually got wrapped around the fan clutch. Easy removal. The cause for eating the belts: harmonic dampener was not on exactly tight enough and so the pulley was off enough to chew belts. So, check the idler pulley and water pump but also check to make sure everything is tight to spec after the tb change you did.

I'm betting you meant Fan Bracket not water pump, a common mistake!

Okay I'll stop with my correcting! for awhile...;)

The smooth wheel the serp belt wraps around for the fan is seized. Won't spin at all. I also see metal shavings under it so I am pretty sure it would be bearings in the bracket. Part is ordered. Probably won't get here till next week. Thanks for all the help.

replace all the pulleys. I started off with the fan one and realized as i got into it that the rest were rough as well. A one day job ended up taking 4 because i had to wait on parts to come in at the dealer. Just do them all. Also get some coolant while you're at it cause you'll have to disconnect the main hoses if you want to keep your sanity.
