If you are doing both sides then yes, one wheel cylinder per side and usually when you buy shoes I believe you get all 4 but been a while since I did mine.

is the beckarnley chinese made or american/japanese?

Also, SL, thank you for the help. Ive got the brakes and radiator to completely replace within the next two weeks, and am mildy stressing out over it. On the radiator, the shop said it was a leak, should I do fan as well? and hoses?

Riding the learning curve will always have costs...it is unavoidable. The trick is to reduce those costs by doing exactly what you are doing, learning the steps of the process as best you can and understanding the cause and effect so you can make the best informed decisions and act/move with purpose.

In this type of problem solving, stress/fear isn't a helpful motivator. Stress/fear is only helpful as a motivator when a large animal is chasing you in order to try and eat you...not so when doing this type of problem solving (well...I guess that might be situation dependent...on geography...up there in Wyoming, who the hell knows what's going on...).

In this type of problem solving, instead, as I mentioned before, focus on understanding the process intently...submit yourself to the logic/steps of the procedure...if your focus is on identifying next three steps in priority of the procedure (for example - making a plan as you are currently doing) and once those are identified focus on the actions you need to take on that next step, then you will bring your mind to the present and the stress (a symptom of your mind taking you into yet to be realized future scenarios) will literally evaporate.

As far as which drums/shoes/calipers to buy, better ask someone else...I just got the NAPA stuff...

If you look in the FSM or google 'FJ60 Rear Drum Brake' (or take one drum off and have a look at what's on the vehicle) you can often find a picture good enough to make a list of what parts you need. Some google searches will show a picture with the Toyota parts numbers identifying each part with its OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part number. Another google search of that exact part number will result in a list of cross reference parts...or take those Toyota part numbers to NAPA or whatever and they can often cross reference and offer an aftermarket part that will fit.

As for what specific parts and how many come in what kits, you are better off directing those questions to the retailer you are purchasing from.

What you need to do is make sure you have all the parts for the task and are familiar enough with the steps of the task, so that when you get started, you get stuck on the small stuff, not the big stuff.

As far as radiator hoses/clamps, I would replace the hoses/clamps that connect directly to the radiator if you are going to replace the radiator.

Read post #60 on this thread for instructions on 'burping' the cooling system after you have replace the radiator and are ready to start the truck up for the first time:

Read post #65 in this thread for how to test if your fan clutch is still good or if it needs to be replaced. If you need to replace it, do a search on MUD for 'fan clutch'...I'm pretty sure Spike Strip has found the right aftermarket part number to buy for a new one...

Thank you for all the help, parts should be ere by the middle of next week. Lots of pictures to follow.. mostve them asking fo advice I'm sure....

Here's a good example of a similar dilemma (making decisions in the face of uncertainty) but a different application/process. This kid Alex Honnold does free solo (no rope) rock climbing. I think it's in this video where his mind gets the best of him and starts to take him out of the present and he has to bring it back in...on the side of a mountain with no rope.

One of the benefits of learning to wrench (problem solve) on your daily driver FJ62 is that you will go through a similar experience, although the implications of failing aren't as severe. Nevertheless, it might seem stressful, but actually the opportunity is a gift. And it pays out in huge dividends when you fight through it, get it fixed and get to drive the 62! With pride!

Can anyone tell me anything about the CSF 2708 radiator with built in oil cooler? I know they occasionally come with bent filler necks, but mine arrived okay. I know I need a 4502 Cap as well. Has anyone put one of these in their trucks?
