Hey guys, I'm getting ready to purchase the Large (71" x 94") RTT from Camp Lab for my 80 series. Was wondering if any body knew of any options for a flat top rack besides the Frontrunner that would fit this tent? I like the frontrunner but it's pricey. Any alternatives?
 
BajaRack does make a rack for the 80 series that will accommodate the large Mombasa/Camping lab tent.

The measurement of the flat area is 86"long by 51" wide.

The rack is one piece 94"x53"x7" black powder coat weighs 58 pounds and will fit the 80 or 60 series. $559.00 plus freight.

Currently the production time is roughly 3 weeks out.

I am working on getting pictures.

Thanks for the info. i was told the Baja expedition rack wouldnt fit the Large tent but if the folded dimensions are 71" x 47" then that would fit in the flat area. i would love to see some pics.

Thule load bars ? I use them and they work great.

Go to rackattack.com They have fit kits that will fit any vehicle. I have gutter mounts, and mounts that adapt to the oem rack on our '08 LC.

Thanks for the heads up. So you have the Thule's attached to the factory rail's on your 08 and you put the Large tent up their? I thought the factory rack wouldn't hold that much weight.

This is one of the pics That was sent to me. I havent seen this Baja Rack before. It looks like a full length flat rack. The only one Ive seen thats close is a full length with a small cage in the front. I think they call it the expedition rack because theres a flat part on the back you can mount an RTT. However it's the little cage in the front that prevents you from mounting the Large Mombasa that Camping Lab sells. I was told that Baja rack had this rack (no little cage on front) to fit the big one. However I have seen no pics on their website or found anyone on mud who has one. If anybody does please post up. This is exactly what I need for many reasons including the price. Fernando at Camp Lab said he could get it but I havent got a price quote from him yet when I do I will post.

Even the large tent only weighs about 120lbs, and i mounted it on the factory rack without the thule bars. It was a pita to tighten the nuts( hand would not fit )although it worked once i got it bolted up. It is way easier to mount with the thule bars now.
The racks are sweet, but the tent takes up most of it so you have a spendy tent rack. My .02

Yea you are right about that, you cant put anything else up there with the tent on top. I did find out that there is a Baja Rack that will fit this tent which is allot cheaper than the Front Runner. The great Fernando over at Camp lab quoted me a great price for the combo tent/rack. I will probably go with this so I can have the versatility of having the rack up there when I dont have the tent attached. The price is close to four new load bars. But probably if I did a little searching craigslist etc. I could find cheaper.

Fernando hooked me up with a front runner rack and large CL tent last summer. They look and work great together.

Ive seen your setup over on the Portal. It's looks great and exactly what I want . The only hang up for me is cost. The Baja Rack will be about $400 cheaper than the Front Runner. I'm trying to weigh the cost / benefit. I know the front runner will be lighter and lower profile anything else I'm missing? And besides that any pros or cons to your setup?
 
By the way. this is a picture of the rack I was sent by Baja Racks. It's not on their website so FYI. I was told it comes with the wind deflector and 4 gutter mounts on each side.

Hey there, John from BajaRack here. I doubt that any rack on the market is as light and strong and inexpensive as BajaRack. The rack that it seems that you are looking for is the BR-TYFJMG-91-9-1-0. This is a 91" long (86" long flat area) x 48" wide flat (no rails or basket whatsoever) x 5" tall (due to the wind deflector) rack that sits about 1.5" above the top of the roof.

This rack was initially built to accommodate the typically larger Maggiolina rooftop tents, but can be used for almost anything. We make versions for the FJ Cruiser ($645.00 plus shipping/tax) and the Land Cruiser (BR-TYLC80MG-91-1-0, also $645.00). There is also a 55" wide version for the larger Maggiolina tents for $75.00 more and a brand new "BajaRack Utility" rack that is the same size as the 91"x51" racks, but is COMPLETELY flat (the wind deflectors are on the bottom!), also for $645.00.

Sorry guys, I misspoke in my second sentence back there - it is not 48" wide, it is 51" wide. Also, I don't think you will find a lower profile rack out there...
