Quiet 37" tire?

Toyo R/T has proven to be rather quiet, about 10k on them now. Digging them off road so far too. The toyotaholics fb page had someone selling a set of 5 for $1500 IIRC.

I had the same problem as you with half worn, loud as hell bfg km2s. I now have Nitto trail grapplers in 315/75 16, they are Silent in comparison. There is a slight humm to them at about 80-100kmh but it's very comfortable with the Windows down.

Get nittos.

I purchased a set of Milestar Patagonia M/T tires in 313/75-16 a few months age and really like them so far. They are surprisingly quiet on the road considering how aggressive the tread is. Much quieter than the mud tires I had on it. They balanced easily and ride well also.

Plus 1 for the Milestar tires, i bought a set a year ago, so far they have been quiet, no wear problems, and you can't beat their price.

I have the Cooper Discover A/T3. I love the tire. Very quite on the road and have not had any trouble with them off road or in snow. Just rotated after 12k and discount tire didn't see any signs of compromised tread depth besides the stuff I have caused due to rubbing. For the cost compared to the other tires on the market I would do it again.

I have 35” copper STT pros on my 80series, quietest mud terain I have ever owned.

On my daily driver 4Runner, I have a set of BFG KO2s which are not a mud Terrain , but have an aggressive look and are very quiet . I truly believe those are he best AT tire on the market right now.

New Procomp AT tires are really quiet and have respectable voids, haven't tried them offroad yet.

I have this tire in a 315 since last summer. They are pretty swell off road. Good traction, and like you said, pretty big voids in the center tread for an AT tire. Also great in the snow (deep or packed). They appear to be a bit of a rip-off of the Toyo AT2 but with larger voids in the center.

I felt like a redneck buying pro-comp tires at a 4wheelparts expo, but the tires have been really good so far. Less than 5k on them now. They were cheap!

I'm running general grabbers in a 37, and they are quite but HEAVY... Really like the K02s, I have a set on my tacoma and if I were looking for a new set of 37s I wouldn't hesitate to try those out.

A day like this (storming with dreadful snowy roads) any other “Mountain Snowflake Rated” 37s besides the KO2s and these:
Trail Hog - Kanati Tires
They look like Duratrac clones EXCEPT they are 3 ply sides and come in 37” :-). Interested in these, but worried about noise.

I had a set of 35 Duratracs, amazing traction in both mud and snow, but too noisy on highway, even in a diesel truck.

Nice looking tires, nice price, likely tough, but are E rated, so stiff, even when aired down the ride is harsh.

Don’t worry too much about the mountain snowflake - that standard is only 10% better traction than a reference all season, which is something pretty much any good off-road traction tire can crush.

Any of the newer breed of “all weather” hybrid tires is going to be good in snow, and a lot of modern MT tires that are really rock tires also excel. It’s a rising tide lifts all boats story where you’d be hard pressed to find a modern silica based tread compound freezing up in cold weather.

The km2 is an old tire, just like the ko was poor in winter vs. the ko2. I hated the ko with a passion, and took a risk with the ko2 because Michelin is a class leader in studless winter tire traction and had to get market share back from the Duratrac.

The ko2 scored a perfect score on ice for its class in a third party run test in Sweden for Canadian tire, and that sealed it for me since at the time there weren’t good longer treadlife options in a 37.

Cooper is smart and not limiting their hybrid and AT offerings to a 35 just to sell MTs, so you now have a bunch of tires including other Cooper brands like Mickey Thompson. Toyo is similarly smart with Nitto in particular.

I also got them super cheap during the holidays and on the road they are surprisingly quiet, even quieter than my old falken AT which I thought was quiet. I know they are brand new still but they are virtually silent for 35 inch AT tires, very impressed. They also have great review for offroad and I'm really looking forward to getting them dirty.

BTW I totally know what you mean, when i was getting the tires installed there are literally nothing but jeeps and brodozers......then there is my little LC with a dorkel.

Here’s a good reference, in order by rim size, for 37’s. It’s really excellent to see how many tires are offered in a 37” that have hybrid use, particularly all-weather, as their design intent.

37 Inch Tires

We can thank the brodozers and Wranglers for this in driving the tire market above 35” for daily driver requirements.

Kills busloads of nuns, too. Sad!

So...the Trail Hog is a 37” Duratrac with a 3 ply sidewall. Shipped to you for under a grand.

Kanati Trail Hog 37X12.50R17 E/10PR BSW Tires

Holy sh$t, if only we didn’t suffer hive mind this might be the most amazing deal on tires ever. And long term reviews look better than long term Duratrac reviews.

That’s cheap enough to add rims and avoid mount and balance cost, allowing you to sell you current rims and tires as a set to cover well over half the cost.

Too bad these don’t have the crap Duratrac carcass.

Get em Dave! Not everyone here is part of the Hive mind, I could get 5 of the MT flavor to my door for 1050!

Well you can’t get a tire/rim package from those guys, but this tire is on my list for sure.

$240 shipped to your door for a heavier duty 37” Duratrac with 18/32 tread depth? That’s insane. We can’t of course suggest that the tires have the same compound, but the Trail Hog is a much more modern tire that was released in 2014.

The parent manufacturer is Greenball, who makes ATV/UTV and commercial farm equipment tires. Some people report tread noise, but they do on the Duratrac as well. And Greenball went far enough to get them winter rated.

I’m not in the market for about a year...but at that price point I might be able to sell my ko2 and only be in for about $500 total.

Uh oh. The Kanati Mud Hog is made in a 39x12.5x17. So that’s a Goodyear MTR in a size between a 37” and 40” without arbitrarily making the tire wider, which causes more fitment problems than diameter.

40’s are too big, but 39’s are not necessarily if it’s a 12.5.

I’m starting to think that aliens have landed and invaded a product marketing group because they just couldn’t take it anymore.

Maybe they’ll make the Trail Hog in a 38x12.5. The biggest gap in the market right now is between 37” and 40” and most 37’s are one size too small.

[leaves to contact Kanati]

I already bought 17s to step up to 35s and maybe 37s one day so i'm good on wheels.

Smoking deal for sure no matter how you slice it, whats the duratrac tread depth? KO2s are only about 15/32" new which is crazy shallow to me.

Hankook had a 38 in there mt a buddybran um on his jeep they were light and cheaper at least when he had them which was bout 4 years ago, I wanna say they were 13.50 though, haven't looked in long time to see if it is still around

... $240 shipped to your door ...

This is why we went with them, but after driving/wheeling them, I will drop the extra coin for Cooper STT. These are the Mud Hog, in talking with the local Kanati rep, they have the same carcass, so expect the same ride. The ride difference between the Kanati and Cooper is significant/obvious, some may like telling which way up the dime is by running it over, personally I prefer the better ride.
