This commercial got me to buy my first G Wagon:
I watch accidents routinely from my office and have become extremely paranoid of head on collisions. Everyday I hear the brakes squeal of semi trucks/cars and honking as people disobey the stop sign at the intersection in front of my office. I got the city to put up a two way sign under stop sign but that hasn't helped. I first got the G wagon but it was too slow and didn't have enough torque. I bought a second one that had been rebuilt from the ground up as a military vehicle (over $75k invested) but it also was also not torquey enough for me. I ended up selling both of them and getting my 100 (back then 200s were running $60k). I kept waiting for 200s to drop to $15k but ended up buying one for $30k. I plan on buying a second 200 soon as a backup.

And that solid front axle is nice too.
After driving LC since the 60 series, my next ride will be a G.

I wheeled with a guy in an older G-wagen diesel on 35’s a couple times. Very capable vehicle, to be sure.
Basically a very overpriced wrangler IMO. Not necessarily even with better build quality.
I see G’s all the time around here and as much as I like utilitarian design, I just don’t get it. Especially in the conversation with a 200. A G wagen seems like a completely pointless set of compromises.

That's a 22 year old rig! I think that's partly what makes the 200 group at least interesting - people are building and modding trucks less than 10 years old and in some cases basically new. I've yet to see a G-Wagen less than 20 years old on a trail.
Personally, I tried light offroading the G wagons and since they felt soo heavy it wasn't fun for me. I know the LC is comparable in weight but it feels much lighter on its feet and more nimble. I do think G wagon is much more attractive but I need 3rd row seating.
Full disclosure: I am not a true offroader, I am a wannabe Baja Racer. I hate slow speed manuevering, dont have patience for it and wish I could be flying through the desert at triple digit speed.

I agree don't see the point of banging up a $100k vehicle crawling over a bunch of rocks. Now going 50+ mph over the Baja seems like fun. But to each his own. What I think would be cool is a used pimped out armoured truck as a urban vehicle.
